  • Charitable work

    Because of the war, a lot of people in Canada were running low on supplies. the woman extended their work to help with it. Women would knit scarves, socks, mitts, etc. they also sent parcels overseas, donated stuff to collection drive, and helped people who need clothes and/or some wear to stay and/or food.
  • Nursing Sisters

    In the war one of the woman's jobs were nurses called "Nursing Sisters. there were more than 2.800 nursing sisters. since they wore blue dresses with white veils their nickname was "bluebirds"
  • Royal Canadian Air Force

    the Royal Canadian Air Force for women was official on July 2nd, 1941 (the first for the country). there were 17.000 members. the woman were not trained to be flying instructors or combatants. they were trained for clerical, administrative, and support roles. as the war went one woman could do more things (ex Laboratory Assistance).
  • life on the home front

    since so many men were absent from there homes in 1942, all the woman in Ottawa born between1918-1922 ages 20-24 were put in selective services to meet possible labour shortages, by 1943 439.000 women were in the service sectors. 373.000 had jobs, the woman made up 30% of the workforce in Canada's aircraft industry many women also worked at home or farms.
