Land Before War
Meggie's father takes Meggie on a walk showing her part of a beautiful scenery and tells her that the world looked like this before the war. Meggie begins to understand what is going on with the war and holocaust. -

Lessons Learned
Meggie is told a very important lesson about the holocaust and begins to hold hatred for Hitler. She is taught that the only reason for the holocaust is that "people can't learn to get along with Jews" also that "Jews are gone because they're Jews, old people gone cause they're old". Meggie doesn't think that there is anything wrong with Jews. -
Mom Begins to Work
Meggie's mom begins to work at the factory instead of just Meggie's father working, to earn more money, leaving Meggie home alone all day. -
Goodbye Harlan
Harlan leaves Lansing and goes back home to Detroit to begin school in a few weeks, Meggie is left clueless because everything she had done for the last two months was with Harlan or for Harlan.
