Wernher Von Braun dies in tragic accident.
Wernher Von Braun, the celebrated lead rocket scientist of the US, dies in a tragic accident. The Saturn V booster, which design’s had been submitted previously, malfunctioned in a supposedly “safe” and normal checkup. The booster exploded taking the lives of all staff in the facility, as well as any progress and design changes made to the Saturn V. The research, at the moment, is set back immensely and will take years to reach the point they had before the incident. -
Sergei Korolev makes a breakthrough in his research
The lead scientist for the Soviets, Sergei Korolev, has made a breakthrough in his research, and has also named that breakthrough the Korolev theory. This provides great aid in their climb of the staircase to landing a man on the moon. The Soviets believe they are only years off and devote all funds that are available to the development to the rocket. The United States, on another note, has just experienced the death of the great Wernher Von Braun and has had their research set back many years. -
Soviets land a man on the moon
They’ve finally done it! No one believed they could, but the Soviets have successfully landed a man on the moon. The development of the rocket using the korolev theory has proved to be far ahead of schedule then what the US had expected, as they are far behind in their development of a new booster. The US is expected to attempt a moon landing in the year of 1976, but since the importance of the Space Race had dimmed down now that the Soviets have won, they might as well give it up. -
United States officially loses Space Race
The story has made it to most US newspaper headlines, and citizens are panicked. The first victory the Soviet’s have had over the US seems to immediately leave lasting impressions on the populous. They now turn to President Nixon with questions about what could have went wrong and why he didn’t encourage the NASA program more heavily. His promise to see the US through to the moon has now been disproved, and people begin to wonder if the validity of his other promises is real. -
Cold War becomes a reality
Due to the overflow of Soviet morale and confidence compared to the drip drop of the US’s, they have declared the Cold War an official war and plan to move any remaining troops they have against the US. They hope to gain another victory at the least to secure their name in fear in the minds of US citizens. Although it looks bleak for the Soviets, they believe they will persevere and prove themselves. -
Research used with rocket propulsion is transferred to military purposes
The Soviet’s announce the presence of nuclear weapons propelled with technology derivative of that of the rockets they sent to the moon. The threat is yet to be validated but the effect has been made on the US people. The panic has increased and pressure has been placed upon Nixon, but in his quickly declining days in the office of president, he is unable to do anything. -
Cuban Missile Crisis 2: The sequel
The tension between both countries has been recorded, figuratively, at a record high as both countries ready their nuclear weapons. In a crude re-run of the Cuban Missile Crisis they make meaningless threats at each other to gain any advantage they can. In the end both countries realize the pointlessness of an atomic battle between them and how it will only end in disaster for both of them. -
All funding to NASA is halted
Without the drive to pursuit the matters of space, the people urge that the money being used to sponsor NASA is used to lower their taxes, and to help pay for any war expenses the country may have. As a result NASA is shut down after many discussions of its usefulness after the loss of the space race.Many people believed the sudden cut of funding was not thought out but the greater majority was no longer interested in space. -
NATO orders troops to be readied
NATO, otherwise known as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, basing its claim upon the dangers of the Soviet Union continuing to exist, orders troops from several different countries to fight and eventually bring down the Soviet Union. The decision is agreed upon by the US, in shadow of the Cuban Missile Crisis 2, and other countries soon follow their example based upon the simple thought “if it happened to them it can happen to us”. -
Soviet union surrenders and is disbanded
The Soviet Union faced with the overwhelming power of the troops prepared by NATO, is faced with 2 choices as presented. The first option, to surrender and dissolve the union, and the second, to attempt to fight their way through. The Soviets soon decide to surrender and on the Ides of March 1979 the union is no longer along with any and all achievements in their name.
