    This was a document that was created in 1763 that prohibited western expansion beyond the appalachian mountains. It brought the British a lot more trouble with 3 troublesome groups that they had to watch over so no chaos would break.The British did this because the needed to collect taxes from the colonists to pay off their debt from the seven years’ war and the British wanted to keep them close to colonial authority.

    1803, America agreed to buy the Louisiana territory for 15 million dollars. The purchased more than doubled the size of the United States but no one knew the exact size of the territory.

    The United States signed a Treaty in 1819 which gave them the land in west and east florida because Spain gave the US a land exchange for Texas.

    1842, treaty resolving several border issues between U.S and British North American colonies. it resolved problems over location of the maine border, and established another border between Lake Superior and Lake of the Woods.

    1848, The Mexican Cession was the land surrendered by Mexico after the Mexican War. The terms of this transfer were written in the the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. The land was most of the Southwest Region of the United States from California to New Mexico.

    Land of southern arizona and New mexico that was purchased by the United States in a treaty signed by James Gadsden, the American ambassador to Mexico at the time.The purchase was the last major area of land that the U.S got, adding a large area to the United States.

    1866, the Russian government offered to sell the territory of Alaska to the United States. The United states ended up buying alaska for 7.2 million dollars. It was less than 2 cents per acre and turned out to be very valuable to The U.S

    1898, The United States invaded Hawaii in 1898. Hawaii became a territory in 1900 and Dole became the first governor. The invasion of Hawaii extended the United States territory into the pacific.
  • Northwest Territory

    First organized territory of the United States. It included from lands south of the Great Lakes, north and west of the Ohio River, and east of the Mississippi River. 1787, the Continental Congress passed an even more important law for the Old Northwest that established a specific frame of government for the area. The new plan, The Northwest Ordinance of 1787, receded Jefferson’s recommendation of self-government. Congress instead created stages of evolution for governing the Old Northwest.

    1818, The new treaty stated that Britain and the United States would come and occupy Oregon Territory and took the northern border of the Louisiana Purchase. The land that the the United States got in the treaty wasknown as the Red River Basin, and ended up become part of the states of Minnesota and North Dakota of today.
