Baird Arives to Ellis Island on the ship, "The Fair lady" hoping to get to New York. From New York he plannes to join the railroad building buisness and work untill he has enough money to travel out west.

After making it through Ellis Island customs, Baird moves into a local B&B to stay while he saves up money. He then finds a job working in a factory making pots and pans.

An accident occurs in which factory in which Baird works and the factory is shut down, Baird now has no job

After a few months of unemployment Baird gets a job building railroads, and starts working his way up.

After working for several months at the railroad building company and becoming a manager, Baird has enough money to go to the west, buy a horse, and maintain a plot of land

After finding a fast horse in the west, he purchases it in the hopes of participating in the race to get land. While participating in the race he finds and claims a plot of land that reminds him of home, with beautiful short grass and plenty of natural reasources in the vicinity.
