    Lewis and Clark Expedition
    Th US. Bought Louisiana from France in 1803. But they had no idea what it looked like. So President Jefferson wanted someone to look at it, Lewis being the commander of expansions went. He invited his old officer Clark. On their expedition they didn’t find any water way From the Mississippi to the pacific. They found over 100 new animals, 178 new plants, and 140 maps of the region. They got help from Sacagawea who was a Native American who knew more about the land than the two Europeans.

    Oregon trial
    At first the trail was laid out by fur traders. You could walk, ride horses, and eventually bring wagons on it. 350,000 settlers used this trail. Eventually a railroad was created so the trail wasn’t used as much. The trail ran by the river so people could come on boats across the river. Which made it really convenient.
  • War of 1812

    War of 1812
    The war of 1812 was a huge war the United States was outnumbered by the Mexicans. United States 35,000 and the British Empire 48,000. The British limited their trade with the Americans. The Americans didn’t like that so they fought back. But in the end no one really lost any of their territory is what their treaty said. The treaty was called The Treaty of Ghent. It ended when the U.S. congress accepted the treaty.

    Indian Removal Act
    Andrew Jaxson created a law in 1830. It was that the indians were forced to adapt too the US laws or leave their homelands. The main tribes that were affected are Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, and Creek. They got kicked out of their land that they started. Which later lead to the trial of tears.

    The Americans decided that they wanted to move across the continent. They wanted to move to spread their traditions and believes. It was what god wanted them to do so that’s why they had to spread everything with everyone. They felt that they needed to spread their rules around to everyone too. This eventually lead to the war against Mexico in 1840.

    California Gold rush
    It was the largest immigration ever with over 300,000 people to California. In 1848 James marshal found gold on his land. The word got around about the Gold. People came from everywhere to find gold in 1849 they were called the forty-niners. At first you could find gold on top of the soil. But later it was found in streams, but later it was harder to find so people came up with cool ways to find it. With all the people towns popped up. So in 1850 California became a state.

    Kansas-Nebraska act
    This act means that Kansas and Nebraska legally created. This let the people in those two states decide if they wanted to take part in slavery or not. It caused tension because Missouri wanted the two states to take part in slavery. Rich people could buy the land out from the original settlers in the two states. So a bloody war broke out. They where called the new Republican Party.

    The Pony express was once an idea from 3 men, who wanted to create a mail system. It reached from the Midwest to California. The had to create a system that was over 240 miles long. They had about 5 delivery men and about 500 horses. They got paid $50 a month. After 19 months of having this, they got shutdown with a new thing. The Pacific telegraph line. This took over but the pony express’ name still lives on.
  • Sand creek Massacre

    Sand creek Massacre
    People of the Colorado territory militia attacked Cheyenne and Arapaho Indian villages. One night the soldiers drank a lot and the Chivington ordered them to attack the Indians. Over 2/3 of them were killed including women and children. This was known as the sand creek massacre.
  • Klondike Gold Rush

    Klondike Gold Rush
    In 1896 gold was found by the Klondike river. 100,000 people came to the Yukon to find gold. Many of them quit their jobs to become gold-diggers. The journey was so tough that many people didnt make it. They gave up or died of the harsh weather. With all the people mining gold and making a lot off of it. There where a lot of new towns that popped up called boomtowns. IN 1899 gold was found somewhere else. So people left the boomtowns and they eventually lost all of their populations.
