Welcoming refugees to our town
Last week eighty refugees from Pakistan and fifty from Iran came to Kozani. It is a small number in proportion to the town' s population but their presence here is important and there aren' t many built camps in the area. Our main challenging task is to make them feel like home and help them to integrate successfully into our daily life. -
Working together
A main human right is to work. Therefore it is important to help them finding work according to their skills and abilities. They could work in the fields during crocous harvest or in local shops. It would be nice to organise cooking workshops for refugees and local women so that to share recipies and to work together in restaurants or in shops with local products. -
School and refugees
in order for refugees to integrate it would be helpful to learn greek. Children should attend school. Students and teachers from our school can teach them greek in their spare time. In that way they could help their parents with the language and also play with other children. Also the school can collect clothes, toys and books for the refugees reinforcing the task of helping people. -
The benefits of hosting refugees
The refuges will be happier when they will be integrated in the daily life of Kozani.They will live peacefully with the locals. Their presence will bring money and benefits into the town as they will spend their money in local shops, they will provide manpower in jobs as well as new skills and ideas. Let us all help them to support their dreams in our town.
