  • Kiel Mutiny

    As news of defeat spread it created unrest in the armed forces. German sailors based at the ports of Wilhelmshaven and Kiel refused orders to go to sea to fight the British. On the 4th and 5th of November mutiny spread to other ports.

  • Armistice accepted

    Erbert, chancellor of Weimar, signs the armistice
  • Sparticist Revolt

    A revolt led by the German Communist Party began (KPD). Newspaper offices were taken over and a revolutionary committee formed. However, the uprising was poorly organised and crushed by the government using the Freikorps troops.
  • Treaty of Versailles

    TOV VIDEO Treaty of Versailles signed, terms included a cap on Germany's military, loss of land and reparation payments to be paid to Allies.
  • Weimar Constitution adopted

    A new constitution created the Reich as a parliamentary democracy.
  • Kapp Putsch

    Kapp Putsch
    Video footage of putsch Challenge from the political right to overthrow the government. Key figures include Ludendorff and Wolfgang Kapp. On the 13th of March 5000 troops stormed and seized government buildings in Berlin.
