    As a reaction to the carnage of World War I, the peace negotiators included in the peace settlement of 1919 a treaty establishing the first global international organisation with general competence: the League of Nations.
  • Creation of the United Nations

    Even before the end of World War II, the Allies had plans for the creation of a new global international organisation to replace the League of Nations. Fifty States met in San Francisco for 2 months in 1945, at the end of which they signed the UN Charter, which came into force on 24 October of that year.
