    -You were able to keep both hands on weapon

    -Much like mortars, except less powerful
    -Used extensively during medieval Europe
    -Many improvements were made to the cannon including wheels

    -Used in the 16th century
    -This was the term used for men who wore half of the armour as usual and a carried a lance
    -This was used to reduce the amount to carry

    Rifling
    -The first real rifling occurred in Nuremberg, Germany
    -It is the process of making grooves in the gun to make the bullet spin
    -This causes the gun to be far more accurate

    -This lock was much more effective
    -Quicker to fire a bullet with this lock

    -Torpedoes are explosive missiles launched from submarines
    -Used during WWI and WWII to sink enemy ships

    -Used as defense to attack planes

  • Smokeless Powder

    -This powder created almost no smoke when a gun fired
    -Also increased accuracy of gun

    -First flew in 1900
    -Used during WWI to bomb cities
    -Created by Ferdinand von Zeppelin

  • Planes

    -Invented by Wilbur and Orville Wright
    -Used during WWI and WWII by spies
    -Also used to bomb and gun down enemies

  • U-boat

    U-boat
    -1906 is the year Germany issued the first u-boat to its fleet
    -These boats were used to sink enemy mechant ships
    -These were used in WWI and WWII

  • Grenades

    Grenades
    -First used by British army in WWI
    -Thrown into trenches, grenades proved to be very dangerous
    -British troops started using Mills Bomb grenades in 1915

  • Howitzer

    -A weapon in between a gun and mortar
    -Far more accurate than a mortar
    -They fire heavy shells

  • Trench Warfare

    -Holes were dug in the ground and tunnels were made that connected to each other.
    -Sandbags were placed in front of the trench to stop erosion
    -Underground dugouts were made
    -In between trenches was called No Man's Land

    -Other countries caught on this idea and began using them
    -Flamethrowers were portable and quite large

    -Used to drop projectiles on enemies in trenches
    -Projectiles came almost directly straight down so it was very destructive

    -Warfare in which a military would attack quickly using both ground and air forces

    -Radar is a system that can detect movement and sound from far away.
    -Many countries during WWII used radar to their advantage
    -Britain used their CH and CHL systems to win the Battle of Britain against Germany

  • Sonar

    -Sonar is used to detect movement under water
    -The first operating sonar system was made in 1928, but most countries had them in 1940
    -The German GHG could detect ships up to 16 miles away
