  • Black Man Arrested

    Two white LAPD officers fought and arrested Marquette Fry for drunk driving.
    - By 7:23 pm, all three of the Fryes were under arrest. The mother had jumped on the back of one of the officers.
    - At 7:40 pm, all of the officers left the scene. As the last car was leaving, it was stoned by an angry mob.
  • Mobs Increasing

    8:15 pm - Midnight: The mob continued to stone automobiles, beat up Caucasian motorists, and harassed a police field command post in the area. Around 1 am: The mob was seemed under control but there was reports of unruly mobs, vandalism, and rock throwing.

  • Meetings with Officials

    A meeting was held between L.A. officials and Ms. Fyre to try and tell residents to stop rioting and looting, so that law could prevail. Instead, a group of blacks met and wanted to remove all white police officials from the area, and replace them with black police officials. The current cheif of police, William Parker, disregarded that option, and made an area around the incident, and planned to call in 500 National Guard members to settle things down. At 4 am, residents were finally settled.

    That evening, people began setting different buildings on fire.
  • First Death

    Between 6 and 7 pm, the first death occurred when a bystander was trapped between the police and rioters in an exchange of gunfire and was trampled to death by the National Guard and rioters.
  • Rioters Reform

    Around 8:00 am, crowds of rioters began forming again.
  • New Curfew

    That night, Lieutenant Governor Anderson announced that there was a new curfew of 8:00 pm.
  • National Guard

    The National Guard was called in the morning because things were getting out of control. By the time they got there, it was too late, and snipers were shooting at them.
  • New Curfew Result

    With the new curfew, the police were able to control most of the rioters.
    Riots slowed down at mid day, roadblocks were set up, and limited access was allowed in Watts.
  • The End of Watts Riot

    When the riot was over, 36 were founded dead, roughly 1,000 were injured, over 4,000 people were arrested, and at least $200 million dollors of property damage.
