Joey was separated from his mother and bought by Albert's father. That day he met Albert and old Zoey.

Albert's father made a bet while being drunk in which Joey had to learn how to plough the land in a week and if not he would be sold.

Joey was sold to the army by Albert´s father because he needed to pay the house mortgage. There he met Captain Nicholls.

Time after Joey meets Topthorn, Captain Nicholls dies at the start of the war.

After Captain Nicholls dies, Joey meets Trooper Warren, whose horse had died during the war. He didn´t know a lot about horses but was very nice.

Both horses were separated from their owners because they reached the German territory. There the horses were kept with the others and the two owners were captured.

After being kept by the German army, Topthorn and Joey were taken to a farm owned by an old man that had a granddaughter.

Topthorn and Joey leave Emily and her grandfather and are taken to war again.

During the winter, the Germans, "forgot" about the horses and most of them died because of the hard conditions in which they lived. Tophtorn and Joey survived because they were together and they kept the warmth.

Suddenly, because of a heart disease, Topthorn dies and Joey is left alone.

During the war, Joey got stuck on a barbed wire in no man's land and two men tried to help him. Later they flipped a coin to see who would keep the animal and the English man won.

After Joey arrives from no man's land he realizes Albert worked in the veterinary. Albert´s friend, David, distinguished Joey and told Albert that he was his horse. At first, Albert didn't believe him, but later, he realized David was right and was very happy to see Joey again.

After some time, Joey started to feel very bad so Albert told Major Martin that something was wrong. He went there and he diagnosed Joey with tetanus. They wanted to sacrifice the horse but after Albert insisted, they didn't and waited for his recovery.

After Joey recovered and the war finished, there was an auction in which all the horses were sold. Joey was almost bought by a butcher but then Emily's grandfather bought him and gave it to Albert with one condition: He should love and take care of the horse and also remind people his granddaughter's story.

Joey and Albert finally go back to their farm in England to live with Albert's dad and wife.
