    Employees of the Western Union Telegraph Company went on strike in 1883 to get equal pay for equal work. This was overall an unsuccessful strike, but it did help to make the issue more well known.

    In 1911, female teachers were only making a salary of $1,900, but the male teachers were making $2,400. After a court case on December 31st, this was changed and the wages were made equal.

    In 1951, the wage gap was much worse. Women were only making 64 cents for every dollar made by a man. This means that women only made 63.9% of what men make.

    This was a court case in which they ruled that an employer cannot slightly change the job titles of women in order to justify paying them less.
  • Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire

    Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire
    In 2007 Lily Ledbetter filed a lawsuit against Goodyear Tire. She had worked there for many years and it was brought to her attention that some of her male colleagues were being paid more then her. She then proceeded to file a lawsuit against them.
