The Birth Of Vladimir Lenin
Vladimir Ulyanov (Lenin) was born in Simbrisk, Russia on April 10 in 1870. His parents were llya Ulyanov and Maria Alexandrovna Ulyanov. They were both professors and his entire family was well educated. This event is significant because Lenin would become the founder of the Soviet Union, and it is still around today. (Bourgoin) -
Great Chicago Fire
The Great Chicago fire burned from October 8-10 in 1871. It destroyed thousands of homes, and buildings. It killed around 300 people and nobody knows for sure exactly how it started. The damage was around 4 miles long and 5 miles wide. It cost around $2,000,000 to rebuild everything that was destroyed. This was an important event in history because many people moved to Chicago after the reconstruction of the city. (Grun) -
Thomas Edison's Power Plant
Thomas Edison opened up the worlds first power plant in 1881. It was first launched in New York City. His incandescent lightbulbs (that he perfected) became lit around the city. This was an important milestone in history because it was the first electric lightbulb that could be used every day. (Grun) -
Expelled from Kazan University
In August 1887, Lenin enrolled in Kazan university to study law. He was expelled three months later because he took place in a "frowned upon" student assembly. Everybody knew about Alexander, so Vladimir was not given a second chance. He moved to his grandfather's estate. He studied political literature and met older revolutionaries. This event is important because it let him further become involved with law, his country, and politics. One could say that a fire ignited inside of him. (Resis) -
Alexander Ulyanov's Death
In 1887, Vladimir's brother, and role model was arrested, and hung because he belonged to a group that was planning to assassinate Czar Alexander III. Lenin was not really a person to care about politics but the death of his brother changed him. He had to step up and take over his family. This is important because the death of his brother shaped him into a hard, responsible young man. (Liversidge 13) -
Mino-Owari Earthquake
On October 28, 1891, the Mino- Owari earthquake struck Japan. The surface wave magnitude was 8.0. At least 10,000 people were killed and many buildings and cities were destroyed. This event was important because many lives were taken and it cost a lot of money to rebuild the two cities. (Grun) -
Lenin Arrested
In 1897, Lenin was arrested and sentenced to exile in Siberia. He became involved in revolutionary activities and he was arrested because of that. He was a Marxist and him and his group supported the working class of Russia. He wanted to educate them in Marxism. They were fighting for the liberation of the working class. Writing Iskra (under the name Lenin)
Lenin was released from exile in 1900. Many things happened during that time. He married Nadezhda Krupakaya (whom he met in exile). After this, he moved to Munich Germany where him and other Marxist members released Iskra. It was a newspaper and the name of it translates to "The Spark". The purpose of that was to unite other Marxist groups around Europe. Their goal was to make one Social Democratic Party. This is important because this event shaped him into a leader. Second Congress of RSDLP
The second congress of the RSDLP (Russian Social Democratic Labor Party was held ion July 20th 1903. The two Marxist groups split because they were having disagreements about who should lead the revolution. The two parties were named the Bolsheviks and the Mensheviks. Lenin belonged to the Bolsheviks. This event is important because Lenin was working his way up the social class. He became an important person and became known throughout Russia (Liversidge) -
Wright Brothers Successful flight
The Wright brothers made the first ever successful flight in an airplane on December 17, 1903. They made four brief flights in the first powered aircraft located in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. This was an extremely important event in history because airplanes are still around today. Around 100,000 are flown each day. (Grun) -
"Bloody Sunday"
"Bloody Sunday" happened in St. Petersburg on January 22 in 1905. It was the start of the Russian revolution. Lenin was a significant person in it. This was important because that was a major opportunity for him to take action and rise to power. (History.com Staff) -
First Affordable Car
In 1908, Henry ford made the worlds most affordable car. It cost $850 and it was called the Ford model T. The vehicle had 22 horsepower, and a four cylinder engine. 15 million cars just of this model were made! This was a breakthrough for the middle class citizens. This showed how fast technology was advancing and how mass production was becoming more popular. (Grun) -

In 1809, woman in Germany were allowed to attend all universities. This was important to the country of Germany because more citizens could finish their education, which means people could be more successful. This was important to the woman because they gained more rights and that was one step closer to equality. (Grun) -
Lenin's reign of terror
In August of 1918, Lenin began his reign of terror and issued a new economic policy. He begin a civil war with the Whites (anti Soviets). His side was known as the Reds and It was his social government. Lenin was attempted to be assassinated by the Whites right after he gave a speech. He got over it quickly and shortly after he won the war. This event is important because he was one of the most important political figures in Russia. It is also shows he had power because he won. Soviet Union Established
One of the most important days of Lenin's life happened on December 13th, 1922. The Union of the Socialist Soviet Republics (USSR) was officially established. Lenin and members of his party worked hard for this day. This event was major to Lenin because he achieved his goal and became the leader of Russia.(History.com Staff) -
Lenin Died
On January 21, 1914, Vladimir Lenin died from his fourth stroke. He was a very important person in Russian history. He made many reforms to Russia and I believe that all of these events were significant because they changed him guided him along the path to the powerful political leader that he became. Joseph Stalin took over Lenins office a few days after his death. He was another strong Soviet leader. (Naden. Blue 1)
