1676 Bacons rebellion occurs and that the city of jamestown is burned to the ground, after almost a whole year of conflict Bacons men about 300 to 400 of them moved to jamestown. Many many men set the the colonial capital on fire and burnt it all to the ground on september 19th 1676. Outnumbered the Berkeley men went back across the river.

After the statehouse in Jamestown caught fire by the Bacons rebellion in 1676, Williamsburg became capitol of the Virginia colony. The house of Burgesses the council of Governor, amd the general court met in the capitol, a building constructed as replacement of the statehouse in Jamestown.
