Emmit Till was a young boy from Chicago who was visiting relatives who lived down south. Till was bet by some of his friends to go say something to a white women, and later on that night Till was kidnapped and beaten brutally and killed. This was important to African Americans because it was like a wake up call of how bad racism still was.
