The Lousisana Purchase
President Thomas Jefferson bought the Lousiana Territory for 15 million dollars. By buying the Lousiana Purchase USA was doubled in size. France used that money during a war with England. -
General Andrew Jackson
Genral Andrew Jackson marched his army into Florida and blew up one fort and captured two others. -
The Florida Acquisition
After Genral Andrew Jackson's march into Florida, Spain gave up Florida for 5 million dollars. -
Texas Annexation
The Texas Annexation was when settlers in Texas started a rebellion against the Mexican goverment. After a long and hard battles against the Mexican army, Santa Anna surrendered and gave Texas independence. For nine years Texas ruled itself, but many Texans wanted USA to annex Texas which it did in 1845. -
Acquisition of Oregon Country
James Polk ( president at thaat time) made a vow that the USA would get Oregon Country. Usa nor British wanted to fight for it. British realized that there were more Americans there than British. So to not jeopardise their relattionship with USA British gave it up. USA agreed to the boundary as latitude 49 north. -
Mexican Cession
Both countrys (USA and Mexico) disagreed about the boundry of Texas. Mexico wanted Texas back while USA wanted other Mexican land like California.The war went on for about two years till Mexico ceded. USA gave Mexico 15 million dollars in exchange. The agreed that the Rio Grande River would be the border. -
Gadsden Purchase
USA wanted the land for shipping goods to the west. James Gadsdon negotiated with Mexico. The Congrees bought the land for 10 million dollars.
