The "Domino-Theory"
President Eisenhower outlines the Domino Theory: "You have a row of dominoes set up. You knock over the first one, and what will happen to the last one is the certainty that it will go over very quickly."
Meaning: Eisenhower was convinced that if Vietanm became communistic the rest of the South East Asia would be Communistic too. -
Genève-convection
The Genève-convection involved that Vietnam got divided in South and North. USA signed because they did'nt wanted a communictic Kina. They wanted an election where tViet Minh would win. -
Arrangment with Ngo Dinh Diem
Eisenhower was affraied that the Communist would win a coming election. Therefore Eisenhower began to instruct efforts to help Ngo Dinh Diem establish a new government in South Vietnam. Eisenhower promised Diem that the United States would make a greater contribution to the stability of the government.
