US Political Parties

  • Independent Party

    George Washington, as 1st US president, gets into office as a part of the Independent Party
  • Federalists/Anti-Federalists

    John Adams was elected as president for the Federalist party. He promoted Federalism through the Federalist Papers (strong national government, appealed to financial, manufacturing, and commercial interest). Anti-Federalists created in opposition to said Federalist ideas.
  • Democratic-Republican

    Formed by Thomas Jefferson and James Madison to oppose the Federalist part. Held office unopposed until 1820's.
  • Jacksonian Democrats

    Led by Andrew Jackson, the party revolved around the ideas of the country being a greater democracy, and having greater rights for the common man rather than for the aristocratic peoples.
  • Democratic Party

  • The Party of Lincoln (Republican Party)

  • Roosevelt Democrat

    Typically southerners that were either; small farmers, organized laborers, or big city political organizers. Birthed from change in political landscape from the Great Depression.
  • Modern Democrat

    Liberal party of the US. The party mostly favors minimum wage, progressive taxation, decrease military spending, and support in legalizing abortion. They believe in the community and that people should be socially responsible for one another.
  • Modern Republican

    Conservative party of the US. The party mostly favors no minimum wage, less taxation, supports high military spending, and disfavors abortion. They believe that people are only accountable for themselves and their families.
