    Signing the Declaration of Independence
    The Delcaration of Independence was written to formally break ties with the King and Britain. On July 4th, 1776 the Continetal Congress signed the Declaration of Independence, which is our nation's birthday. This event is one of the most important events in our country's history because it marks the start of a revolution. From then on we defeated Britain and became an independent country, The United States of America.

    The Signing of the U.S. Constitution
    The U.S. Constitution is a set of laws for the government and the people to follow. It is our second written form of government, after the Articles of Confederation. The Constitution was adopted on September 17th, 1787. The first 10 amendments were proposed on September 25th, 1789 and since then, there has been 17 more amendments added. The Constitution is important because it sets the guidelines for the government and for the people.

    Invention of the Cotton GIn
    The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney. The cotton gin made producing cotton easier and faster. It could produce 50 pounds of clean cotton in a single day. This invention helped the southern states profit greatly. This impacted the US because it caused people to want more and more slaves. It was important to the south especially because they were the ones who profited from the cotton.

    CA Gold Rush

    The CA Gold Rush began when James Marshall found a piece of gold. Word spread that gold was found and people started coming over from all over the world. These gold seekers were called forty-niners. Within 5 years, 250,000 people had traveled to CA. The mining camps were crowded with people. These miners worked very hard because they were very greedy for gold so they could get rich. In 1849 gold cost $16.00 per ounce. Many people got rich, but more did not get as rich as they had hoped.

    The Stock Market Crash of 1929 was a historic day. There were so many stocks to sell that the ticker fell behind. The prices then went down, but nobody saved it like they had previously. This day is known as the worst day in stock market history. Everyone was trying to sell their stocks, but no one was buying causing the stock market to crash.This event is important because it was the beginning of the Great Depression. It was the start of a long time of hardship for Americans.

    World War II

    World War II is the second world war that included more than 30 countries. It started with the invasion of Poland by Germnay. Germany, lead by Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler commited suicide causing the Germans to surrender in May 1945, but Japan did not surrender until September 1945, the end of WW2. This event had a huge impact on the U.S. One major reason is it helped bring the U.S. out of the Great Depression because it gave millions of people, including women, jobs to support the military.

    Apollo 11 Lands on the Moon
    The famous words, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" come from Neil Armstrong who was one of the astronauts on Apollo 11 when man first walked on the moon. Apollo 11 was launched on July 16, 1969 and reached the moon four days later. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first and second man to walk on the moon. This event is important because it marks a new revolution for the United States. They were on the moon enabling scientists to learn more about space.

    I was born on May 10th, 2000 in Guaning, China. I was adopted in June of 2001 by my parents, Alan and Barb Strock. I have one sister, Bethany, who was also adopted from China. I like to play soccer, basketball and I also do gymnastics.

    Terrorist Attacks of 9-11-2001
    Terrorists planned 4 attacks on the U.S. Two planes were hijacked and ran into the World Trade Center by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda. Another plane was crashed into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. The fourth plane crashed because passengers on the plane tried to overcome the terrorists. Nearly 3,000 people died that day. This is an important day because that is the day thousands of innocent people died that day because of the terrorists who caused lots of pain to thousands of families.
