  • invention of the Typewriter

    invention of the Typewriter
Christopher Sholes created the typewrghter in !867. It was a machine that people were able to type things out on. Much like how we print things out. This was a big deal at the time because it was the first machine that didn't have you write by hand. Many had bad hand writing so it eleminated the problem of illegible writing.
  • Why the Typewriter was important

It gave many women jobs in the work place, other than cooking.
The typewriter paved new ways for communication ideas. it also revolutionized the way books, news prints, and letters were made because the typewriter helped move America's communication along, so it makes the top 20.
  • Transcontinental Railroad created

    Transcontinental Railroad created
The Transcontinental Railroad made a passage way of transportation across the U.S. from sea to shing sea. It was the connecting the Union pacific and the central pacific railroads. they were brought together at Promontory Utah. It was t a major railroad with miles of rail.
  • Tranc. RR reasons

Being the first railway across America is a big deal. Moving people, buisness, livestock, medicine and many other things across vast areas. It employed many people in the process of building the rail road. Chinese labor was used a lot for the creation of the track. Because of its enormity this makes the top 20 list.
  • invention of the Telephone

    invention of the Telephone
Alexander Graham Bell made the telephone in 1876. It allowed people to call others and have their voice heard miles away. At this time you would call someone and have them plug you into the line of the person you are trying to call.
  • The first Telephone reasons

The Telephone opend up communication lines for the world. No more sending messages from country to country, let's just dial them on up. People were communicating much faster. And the future was looking bright with new light bulbs and phones.
  • invention of the first Incandescent Bulb

invention of the first Incandescent Bulb
Thomas Alva Edison and his team made the bulb with trial and error. they tried everything from blades of grass, wires, sticks, and even hairs from his teams beards. but finally they tried a peice of carbonized bamboo. iI did the trick and they used bamboo filaments for many years.
  • reasons for it being important (incandescent bulb)

The first working Incandescent bulb is very important because it lit up homes and workplaces very quickly. Great strides away from candles ment less fires. Now light bulbs are probably what is lighting the room you are in right now. If it werent' for these strides in technology, nothing would ever effectly light a room.
  • The Great Migration years: late 19th century

The Great Migration years: late 19th century
The Great Migration was a when many of the African Americans moved north where more jobs were. The great movement of thousands of people goes down in history because of its enormity. The jobs were diminishing in the south while in the north’s cities grew and grew with more and more jobs. Many blacks went north to escape Jim Crow laws and escape racial discrimination.
  • Great Migration Explanation

This giant wave if African Americans helped the factories industry boom. Henry Ford opened his assembly line to blacks. During this time African Americans were working in steel mills, stock yards, and munitions plants and because of the work force increasing some took advantage of it passing out free railroad passes. Because African Americans prospered in the north, businesses grew to be more efficient. America was able to produce much more. In return the United States became a litle stronger.
  • Chinese Exclusion Act

    Chinese Exclusion Act
This law was signed on May 8th, 1882 offically banning the entering of chinese immigrants into America. This law was put into play to make the waves of immigration rapidly slow. Chinese immigrants were coming in very quickly so this helped. It how ever did not ban students, teachers, merchants, or tourists.
  • Chinese Exclusions importance

This law banned Chinese immagrants from entering, right after we have them build our railroad. We changed our open door policy on them and because of our nativism thoughts we didnt want them coming back unless we had more work to be done. This really nativist act was unfair to the chinese, and very biast towords natural born americans.
  • First Kodak Camera

    First Kodak Camera
George Eastman developed the first camera for the average joe to buy. Before pictures would have been taken professionaly and developed soon after the camera was done taking the picture. Then when this new device came out the average person could take their very own photographs.
  • Kodak Camera Reasons

Being the first house hold camera meant a lot for the future of photography. Selling the cameras for 25 dollars was a fair price, then Eastmen's company would recieve the film, turn them into pictures and send them back with the camera filled. At the time it inspired amateur photographers. And all thanks to mister Eastmen, we now have professional ones to do our family photos. And if it wasn't thanks to the new camera, we wouldnt have photojournalism.
  • The Treaty of Paris 1898

    The Treaty of Paris 1898
The United States and Spain signed a armistice, that ended the little war. The war only lasted 15 weeks, and the out come couldnt of been any better. Spain freed Cuba and turned over the islands of Guam and Puerto Rico, then sold the Philippines for $20 million. America won the war in the blink of an eye, and America won a lot for such a small war. The cubans were also much better off thanks to the Americans freeing them from spain!
  • Reasons for the Treaty of P. being important

Thanks to Yellow journalism at the time everybody wanted to go to war. And when it was all said and done America had many more business opportunities for fruit, tobacco, and other goods. With the Cubans freed and new territories owned by the U.S., what else could we of wanted (other than more). America became much stronger and was looked upon even higher by beating Spain.
  • First Flight

    First Flight
When Orville and Wilbur Wright flew the first air plane for 12 seconds and 120 feet it was a mile stone for transportation. Now that isn’t very impressive at all because of the planes we have today. If it were not for the Wight brothers we may still not have created any flying machines. This paved the way for the future of transportation. This is a big deal, moving onward and upward for America! (Pun intended)
  • reasons for the first flight

Now Planes are used every day to transport people and things place to place usually from really far distances apart. There are commercial jets for people, planes for war, planes for packages and many more reasons to use planes. You can fly around the world in about three days with some planes. And travel from state to state in a couple of hours. If you compare that to a four month long journey some settlers would have to take to get across the U.S. it’s amazing!
  • Gentlemen's Agreement of 1907-1908 (late 1907-early 1908)

    Gentlemen's Agreement of 1907-1908 (late 1907-early 1908)
Soon after America banned the Chinese from entering the U.S. we make a agrement banning some Japanese. We pretty much say " You can have only your finest craftsmen and skilled men enter now, thats it.". And America figures we can let only the skilled workers in and we may get something out of it.
  • Gentlemens Agrement reasons

The Gentlemens Agreement was big for the Japanese immagrants in the west coast. And was about the same with the European immagrants in the east. Angle island was banning the Japenese and Chinese. This shaped the diversity in the U.S. and because of it, also shaped the future. More sucessful men and wemon entered and in return made America stronger, and smarter!
  • reasons the Model T was important

This was a great stride in transportation. And a window into the future for the people of the 1900’s to see. Now cars are used by millions of people daily. On September 13, 2011 it was reported 75% of America owns a car and 31% owns two cars or trucks. Three fourths of America has a car and it was all thanks to Henry Ford’s Model T for starting the car revolution.
  • First Model T

    First Model T
The invention of America’s first affordable car working car: the Model T. Henry ford created the Model T. It was not the first automobile but the first affordable one. Every other car before then was just for the rich to enjoy. When it came out it let the average working class release that the future would be very bright with inventions such as this. The car became a reliable form of transportation. It was one of the first forms of transportation that did not need horses because of its engine.
  • Invention of the Assembly Line

    Invention of the Assembly Line
Henry Ford combined four major aspects of factories to create the first Assembly Line. The four aspects were; interchangeable parts, continuous flow, labor division, and reducing wasted effort. After five years he completed his goal and made the ultimate working efficient technique. The idea was each person would do one task to an object then it would go down the line to the next person to do something else to the object. Because the worker only had to remember to do one task it was able to move
  • -End of first paragraph, Reasons for the Assembly Line being important.

one task it was able to move quickly.
Henry made the most time and labor efficient technique of assembling and manufacturing any object. The assembly line is still used to this day for the same reason. The fact that people can work on one thing and master that task makes things work a million times faster than teams working on one piece of equipment. This easily makes the top 20 list because it’s still used today.
  • The Panama Canals opening

    The Panama Canals opening
Many Americans thought there needed to be a canal made in Central America. Ships needed to get from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pasific Ocean and visa versa. They made a seriese of locks that would raise ships and lower them. there were the Gatun Locks, the Pedro Miguel Locks, and the Mireflores Locks. With the Gatun Lake in the middle. This series of entricate water ways made up the man made Panama Canal.
  • Panama Canals importance

The canal connected the Atlantic Ocean and the Pasific Ocean. Giant frait ships were able to pass through what used to be solid land. It save many thousands of miles and half the time. During the war U.S. ships were needed in Asia, Europe, and Africa. New yoprk ships could leave and sail through it and make their way to San Francisco in half the time. Because it helped out in transportation, war eforts, and shiping it makes the top 20 list.
  • Impact of the Automobile years: 1920s

Impact of the Automobile years: 1920s

Street light were poping up in Detriot in th early 20's. that ment safer driving. While the first underwater road connecter New Jersy and New York in the late 20's. Roads poped up all over tho country.
  • reasons for the Impact of Automobiles

Roads such as Rout 66 that even have songs wirtten about them couldnt have been possible with out the afordable automobiles. The roads later shaped where town grew. Road side towns became cities later and rout 66 could of started many. Automobiles let familys go on vacation and live farther from their place of work, and because their stil shaping the country now they make the top 20 list.
  • 18th amendment, Prohibition

     18th amendment, Prohibition
In January 1920 the 18th amendment went in to effect, launching the era kown as the Prohibition. During this time the buying, selling, making, and transporting alcoholis drinks was illegal. Bers/ saloons shut down and drunks became sober for the first time in years. There are always law breakers and because of this law, organized crime grew and grew. There still people who needed their fix and no one was going to stop em'.
  • Prohibition Reasons

The law banning a common drink was crazy to the people who recently just voted for the law. They changed their minds quick. So bootleggers were every where smuggling the liquor around. while speakeasies were happining in night clubs. Over all america was feeling remorse when their booze were taken away from them. So this was very important when they later repieled it. This easily makes the top 20 events list.

  • Invention of the Band-Aid

    Invention of the Band-Aid
Earle Dickson worked in the cotton industry for Johnson and Johnson. Earle knew his way around cotton. He was inspired to create the band-aid when he always saw his wife cut her hands while preparing food. He created the band-aid to stop her from bleeding and help her hand heal faster.
  • reasons for the band-aid

Now the Band-Aid does exactly that. Americans now usually have a form of bandages at home, but many of them are Band-aids! They are popular because how simple yet effective they are. I bet you have used a band-aid. I know people who want band-aids even though they don’t need them. And because they can still be found in the average household they made the top 20 list!
  • Quota reasons

This was a drastic change for the U.S. because it limited the large amount of Europeans entering. By 1929, just eight years later, countries like; Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Yugoslavia, Austria, Hungary, and Czechoslovakia’s immigrant numbers dropped to about 10,000 people. Because of the change and being a fine example of power, this event makes the top 20 list!
  • The Quota System

    The Quota System
The Quota System was set up in 1921 because of the hundreds of thousands of immigrants that came in. From 1919 to 1921 the number of immigrants went from 141,000 to 805,000 people. Congress had to do something quick before there were too many. So the passed the Emergency Quota Act which limited the flow of immigrants mainly from southern and eastern Europe. • The Teapot Dome Scandal

    The Teapot Dome Scandal
The Teapot Dome scandal happened in the early 1920’s. It was under Warren G. Harding’s presidency. The scandal was when the government found a giant natural oil deposit in Teapot Dome Wyoming and in Elk Hills, California. When the government had it set aside for when they would need it, Albert B. Falls leased it out secretly to the highest bidder. Albert made about $ 400,000 in “loans, bonds, and cash” soon after, he was found guilty later. Albert tried defending himself by saying the contracts
  • Teapot Dome reasons for importnce

Albert B. Falls was one of Harding’s cabinet members at the time of his convection. This scandal showed the U.S. how corrupted the government really was. Later Harding’s other cabinet members were proven to be nearly as bad as Falls. The Teapot Dome scandal will be an example of the government at the worst times until something worse happens. But for now the scandal is one to remember!
  • Scopes trial importance

This trial would eventually decide what should be tought in public schools. The evolution and science or the religion law that everyone had grown up to believe. Scopes was later found guilty and fined $100. The Tennessee Supreme court later changed that, but the teaching of evolution was still outlawed. this trial shaped the future by introducing the idea that the bibal may have some flaws. It later was allowed to teach evolution because i just learned about it in my biology class.
  • The Scopes Trial

    The Scopes Trial
The scopes trial was a trial of what should be tought in schools, the theory of evolution of fundamentalist theory.
