  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The stamp act was a tax that the British placed on all printed paper used by the colonists. It was the most upsetting act of the many set in place for the colonists. This act along with many others made the colonists feel that their rights were being violated and started the fire for the revolution.
  • Protests

    After the acts were passed the colonists revolted by refusing to but British goods and many participated in the Boston tea party. These protests let the British know that the colonists were not happy with the taxes and the way they were being treated.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    This was the first battle of the American Revolution, the first shot was known as the "shot heard around the world". This would be the beginning of a nearly 8 year long war with the British.
  • Declaration of Independence

    It explained why why we should be free, listed the complaints we had with king George the 3rd and England parliament. It ultimately declared our independence from England and set the standards for our constitution.

    The most important battle of the American Revolution because it brought the French into the war on our side against the British. This is important because it became the turning point of the war and was our new country's first ally.

    Treaty signed in Paris by representatives if King George 3rd and the United States of America. It was the treaty that ended the revolutionary war. It was officially the point at which the U.S. was free from England.

    The U.S. constitution gave power to the people and promised freedom as well as set up a democratic government. It is important because at that time there was no government anywhere in the world that gave the citizens the right to the government.

    Samuel Slater built the first factory in america which was a cotton spinning mill. This is important because it was the start of the industrial revolution in America which skyrocketed the economy.

    The southern states seceded and declared themselves the Confederate States of America. This would lead to the civil war which was started with an attack on the union in South Carolina. It would change America forever.

    This law allowed people to buy land in the great plains. This is important because is allowed people that had not had a chance before to become land owners and cultivate new land.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Emancipation Proclamation
    On this day Abraham Lincoln issues the Emancipation Proclamation which freed all of the slaves in the confederate states. This is important because when the war first started the unions main goal was to keep America united as one nation. Now the was was about ending slavery.
  • Battle of Gettysberg

    Battle of Gettysberg
    The battle of Gettysburg had the most casualties ever on U.S. soil. 50,000 people were killed in 3 days. This marks the point in the war when victory for the south would no longer be plausible and was the reason for Abraham Lincolns speech; the Gettysburg address.
  • In God We Trust

    In God We Trust
    In 1864 "In God We Trust" became our county's motto and was put on all of our money. It helps to represent a united country and the sacrifices it took to become a free country.
  • 13th amendment

    The 13th amendment abolished slavery and set 9 million people free across the U.S. This amendment changed the united states forever and created the unique, diverse, and equal nation that we know today. (even though we still have work to do)
  • Transcontinental Railroad

    Transcontinental Railroad
    In 1869 the transcontinental railroad was completed. It connected the eat to the west. It made it easier for people to settle the western territory, allowed for easier trading, and helped with production and the industrial revolution. Materials and resources had an easier time getting to industrialized cities.
