Chistopher Columbus
An Italian explorer sailing for Spain who believed that Asia (India) could be reached by sailing west from Europe. His first voyage was in 1492, wherein he discovered North America (Caribbean islands) and named it the West Indies. He will make four voyages to the new world without fully realizing what he had discovered. -

Middle Passage
A voyage of african slaves across the atlanic ocean. Also carried other goods like cotton, guns, ammo, etc. -
James Town
The first perament settlement located near the Williamsburg, Virgina. It was an England colony as; well set up in may 1607. Tobacco saved them from being a poor to rich. -
Plymoth
English Pilgrams aboard the Mayflower sailed for two months. Anchored at Plymoth rock. Wanted to practice different religons. -
New England Colonies
They were callled pilgrams, founded the Plymoth colony's. Helped by the local natives and tought farming, fishing, and hunting. -
Massachuetts Bay Colony
Consised of 1000 Puritains and formed the first real goverment in the "New world". Took place in modern day Massachusettes with Gov. John Winthrop. -
Middle Colonies
The middle colonies included traders and travelers. James, the Duke of York named it New york. -
Southern Colonies
The southern colonies were the farmers and planterners. This showed that they also owned slaves. -
Great Awakening
Religous revival in the British American colonies refered to as Pietism and Quietism in Europe. -
French and Indian War
Happped between the British and French because of the Frenchs expaintion of the Ohio River valley. Britsh won the war in the end. -
Stamp Act
British paralement placed a tax on paper in the colonies. Paralement did this because they wanted to rasie revune in the colonies. -
Boston Massacre
A fight between the colonist and the British. Colonist were boycotting and vandilised/assulted the british. The colonist lost. -
Boston Tea Party
American Patiots disgused as Mohawk Indians dumped tea into the Boston Harbor. Patriots did this in protest of the tax placed on tea. -
Battles of Lexxington and Concord
Battle between the British and American provincials that stared the American Revolution. British tried to destory or capture weapons that the Americans had. -
American Revolution
War between the Americans and Britain for american independence. The Americans Won in 1783. -
Declaration of Independence
Document signed by the Continental Congress that declared independence from Great Britain. -
Valley Forge
In the revolution George Washington led 11,000 regulars on the west bank of Schuylkill river. This boosted moral in the revolution. -
Battle of Yorktown
General Cornwallis surrended to General Washington and the French ( American) allies. This was the last major battle that they had in the American revolution. -
Article of Confederation
This article was the first U.S. constitution. It was the connection between Continental Congress and the fedral goverment. It was bad because states have too much power. -
Underground Railroad/ Harriet tubman
A passage way that let slaves escape from southern states to northern states. Harriet Tubman (a former slave) assited in helping slaves. -

A movement, that happened with the americas, that was for the stop of slave trade and chattel slavery.Fredick duglas -

This convention was put in order to make the Constitution. The constitution was signed by 39 delagates. -
Industrial Revolution
When Americans started to not rely on hand-made tools and used more of mecanical-tools. The economy went up. a lot. -

This document shows the rights of an individual in both the state and in fedral goverment. It was inspired by the Manga Carta. -
Louisiana Purchase
Land across the Mississippi River purchased from France by the U.S.. Made the U.S. twice as big and encoraged western expansion. -
Lewis and Clark Expedition
Thomas Jefferson sent two explores by the name of lewis and clark to explore the Louisiana purchase and the Pacific northwest. They went looking for a water route. -
War of 1812
War that happened between Britain and the United States over maritime rights. Ended with the treaty of Ghent. -
Missouri Compromise
When congress made Missouri the 24th state and confict arrose between the north and the south over slavery. This led into the Civil war. -
Election of 1824
Presidental election that the house of representives made John Adams Presidents. He won even though he did not have the most electoral votes or the most popular. -
Indian Removal Act
First major legislative departure that caused the Indians to be able to move across the Mississipp river. And most tribes did not like that . -
Battle of the Alamo
A battle between the Texans and Mexican's, the Texans only had 200 men against thousands of Mexican forces. They held out for 13 days until they were finally over runned. -
Manifest Destiny
Territorial expansion that included the oregon terittory, texas, california, and new mexico. Bever trappers are the first to the west. -
Mexican-American War
War that included Mexico and the United states over texas. Led to the US winning and gaining Texas. -
California Gold Rush
The movement of people towards California to get gold and get rich. Mostly because of the Sutter's Mill. -
Compromise of 1850
California becomes a state, it broke the the line across the states. Let the people vote for the land to be free or a slave state. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
A abolitionist novel made by Harriet Beecher Stowe, that was popularized in the north. Majority was white. -
Bleeding Kansas
Missiour starts to flood in kansas to change it into a slave state instead of a free state. Didn't work in the end. First blood shed over slavery. -
Dred Scott Decision
A free black man fights for rights as an American citizen but the Surpreme court decides against this. -
Lincoln-Douglas Debates
A seires of debates between Lincoln and Douglas, they were both running for senator, and discused the topic of slavery. Douglas won. -
Confederate States of America
The 11 southern states that seceded from the united states. Also called the confederacy. -
Fort Sumter
First engagement of the civil war happened at this fort. Happened after south carolina seceded. -
American Civil War
War that was between the Union and the Confederacy over slavery. Lasted four years and the Union ended up winning. -
Emancipation Proclamation
Issued by President Lincoln and freed the slaves in the south. The south did not let the slaves go free. -
Battle of Gettysburg
One of the biggest battles that was the turning point of the war. Let the Union turn the tide over the Confederacy. -
Gettysburg Address
Speech give by Lincoln at the Gettysburg's cemetary. Wrote the whole speech on the train to the cemetary. -
Battle Of Appomattox
Last battle that happened in the civil war. Ended with the south(Robert E. Lee) surrendering to the north(Ulysses S. Grant) at the Appomattox Courthouse.
