    Discovering the New World
    In 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed to America in three ships: the Pinta, the Santa Maria, and the Nina. He didn't know he was going to the America's in fact, he was trying to get to Asia, but he took a wrong turn and ended up in the Americas.. This is important because he had found the New World and without it we would not be here.

    Boston Tea Party
    The colonists were angered about the taxes they were being charged, and the unfair acts like the Stamp Act, the Quebec Act, and many others. They dubbed these unfair laws the "Intolerable Acts" and threw three shiploads of tea into the harbor to make a point. This is important because it was a major event leading to the Revolutionary War which would give the Colonies their freedom.

    The Revolutionary War was when the thirteen colonies wanted to be independent from Britain. The British taxed the colonists and passed unfair laws. When the war started it didn'tlook like the colonies had any chance, but we ended up winning. The army started out as a militia. After a while uniforms were made, and we had an official army. Leading it was General George Washington. The Americans suffered brutal winters, and diseases. It is important because America gained it's freedom from Britain.

    The Declaration of Independance was when we declared freedom from Britain. James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, and others all met up to form a declaration. It stated that the king was being unfair, and they had enough of it. They wanted independence and this document clearly stated it. It was important because without it we would not be a free country.

    The U.S. Constitution was a bill that formed our goverment branches: Executive, Judicial, and Legaslative Branches. It also had the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights was a list of rights all American citizens had. These rights would limit the governments power over the peoiple.The first one was freedom of speech. It stated that you could chose your religion, and speech. Without it we would not have a democracy.

    The U.S. bought 828,000 miles of land from France. They only sold it because they were afraid that they might get into a war, and they needed more money to fund an army. It doubled the size of the U.S. It includes 15 current states, and 3 Candaian provinces. It is impportant because it doubled the size of our country for 11,000,000 dollars.

    The Civil War was when the North wanted to abolish slavery because they thought it was wrong. They though all men should be treated equal. The South disliked the idea because they needed workers for their plantations. Eventually the South got tired and seceeded from the union This is what started the Civil War. It was the Union against the Confederate. Eventually the South annexed back with the Union. It is important because it ended slavery.

    World War II Was the deadliest war in world history, killing more than 80 million people. All of the powerful nations fought and joined teams called the Allies, and the Axis. It was important because it was the biggest war in world and U.S. history.
  • Pearl Harbor

    Pearl Harbor
    Pearl Harbor was a military base in Hawaii. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor with bombers, and fighters sinking 4 boats, damaging 8 battleships, and killing many people. Earlier one radio patroller saw a strange signal that he couldn't recognize, so he ignored it. That signal was coming from the Japanise Zeroes coming to destroy Pearl Harbor. Later 6 of the battleships returned to fight in World War II. It is important because it led to WWII.

    Assassination of John F. Kennedy
    John F. Kennedy was shot and killed by Lee Oswald. He was arrested but he too was shot and killed by Jack Ruby. An amatuar cameraman got video footage of the vent. The government later paid him over 600,000 dollars per second of the 26 second long tape. The assassination records were supposed to be locked away for 75 years, but they were later removed from the archives. This is important because John F. Kennedy was one of the nations best presidents.

    9/11
    9/11 was when 4 planes were hijacked. That morning 19 terrorists boarded 4 commercial airplanes. They took over the four planes. Two planes hit the Twin Towers, one hit the Pentagon, and one crashed into an empty field. In all nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks. The fourth plane was believed to be heading for another building, but the passengers attempted to take the plane back. The terrorists crashed the plane. It was important because it changed American security forever.

    Hurricane Katrina was the biggest hurricane in 100 years. It killed more than 1,800 people, and caused more than 80 billlion dollars in damage. It is important because it is one of the biggest storms in U.S. history.
