Updated Timeline Adv. Studies

  • Period: to

    The Start

During this time, I learned how to draw and shade different facial parts. I worked on eyes, noses, mouths, ears, and hair.
  • Period: to

    Technique

This week I started out learning the basic techniques of shading, such as cross-hatching and shading with texture. The next day, I practiced shading basic shapes using the techniques I had learned, but that didn't turn out that well. I also figured out that I need to get some more materials to draw a full-on face. I will need to bring a compass, a mannequin for sizing, and fixative to keep my sketches from smudging.
  • First Meeting With the Art Teacher

On this day, I had my first meeting with Ms. Fennelly. We talked about the Scholastic competition and different ideas for what I should do in Advanced Studies.
  • Period: to

    Eyes

During this time period, I worked on drawing realistic eyes. I used the two books that I have to help me to draw them.
  • Period: to

    Youtube Help

During this time, I looked up different YouTube videos to help me. The ones I've watched have really helped me improve my techniques for drawing eyes and noses. Something I learned was that I need to "study" the picture that I will draw when I'm ready for it. Today, I decided to draw Demi Lovato's mouth. Surprisingly, it turned out fairly well! I also used the kneaded eraser for creating the highlights on the mouth.
  • Ears

Today I worked on only drawing ears. I ended up drawing two complete ears; one was out of the book I'm using for techniques, reference, etc. The other ear was a celebrity's ear. The first ear ended up better than the second, so I still plan to practice them tomorrow! I also learned the different parts of the ear. The parts are the helix, tubercle, antihelix, concha, tragus, antitragus, and the lobe. Overall, today was a productive day!
  • Period: to

    Hair

During this time I practiced drawing hair. I learned that I really need to notice the darker areas and the lighter areas to capture the realistic effect. Also, I learned that spliting the hair into different "sections" helps develop the values.
  • Period: to

    More Eyes, Noses, and Mouths

During this time period, I worked on drawing another pair of eyes, a nose, and a mouth. These different drawings were based off of pictures that Ms. Fennelly gave me.
  • Period: to

    Curly Hair

This week, I worked on drawing wavy hair and curly hair. I thought it would be hard to make hair look curly through a drawing, but it actually isn't that hard. Also, I began thinking of ideas for the Scholastic competition.
  • Period: to

    Ariana Grande

During this time, I worked on my very first portrait! It started out as just wanting to work on hair, but I decided to complete it anyway. The portrait was of Ariana Grande.
  • Proportions

Today I worked proportions of the face and facial parts. I did this by looking in a book that I had used in August/September. It helped a lot! I learned how the face is split into halves and thirds to help arrange the eyes, mouth, nose, etc. I think my face is coming okay, and tomorrow I hope to get to shading at least the eyes!
  • Period: to

    The "Simple Face"

During this time, I worked on my "simple face." This is a face that doesn't look like anyone in particular, but it was more for working on proportions.
  • Period: to

    Thanksgiving Break!

Over Thanksgiving break, I got set on my idea for the competition. I also went to an art store on The Hill to get a portfolio, some more pencils, and more erasers.
  • Got Art Supplies

On this day, I went to a store on The Hill to get art supplies! I got more erasers, another pencil sharpener for home, a sketchbook for my competition, and a portfolio for my art.
  • Met with Ms. Fennelly

On Monday, I went to Ms. Fennelly's room to check up and show her my sketch for the competition. She told me it was good and that I could start!
  • Practiced Drawing Maple Leaves

During class on Monday, I practiced drawing maple leaves because they'll be in my art piece.
  • Started Competition Piece

On Tuesday, I got started on my competition piece. I only got the shape of the face done because I want it to look just right.
  • Worked on Timeline

On Wednesday, I worked on my updated timeline. Also, because Ms. Darnell wasn't here, I decided to read.
  • Period: to

    Got the Real Piece Going

During this time period, I restrarted my piece because I couldn't get the proportions right. Then, I worked everyday on the piece until I got it done.
  • Finished Competition Piece and Named Them!

This day I completed a background and named my piece "Vita enim Dissolvit" which translates to Life is Weakening.
  • Scholastic Due Date

Wednesday is the day when Ms. Fennelly would like me to be finished with my art piece. I'm hoping I'll be able to complete it by this day!
