  • Slavery

    Slavery is the ownership of another human. Morally this is wrong, but back in the 1600, 1700, 1800's it was commonplace. Usually different races would be enslaved then creating racial conflict.
  • Civil Disobedience

    Civil Disobedience: the refusal to comply with certain laws or to pay taxes and fines, as a peaceful form of political protest. This is usually brought on by conflict caused by the government or it's leaders.

    This was a Protestant "revival" movement during the 1790's. It reformed what people believed and helps to set the base for most modern churches today.

    Manifest Destiny: The belief that it was Gods will that the US expands all the way to the other side of the continent.

    The Oregon Trail was the historic 2000 mile trail that went to the great plains. This trail was used to help expand the country and help complete manifest destiny.

    Harriet Tubman was an American civil rights activist. She helped eliminate slavery and helped reform today's civil rights movements.
  • Santa Fe Trail

    The Santa Fe Trail connected Missouri with Santa Fe, New Mexico. It became a commercial highway until the railroad came around. This helped to grow Americas economy and expand the country as a whole.
  • The Alamo

    The Alamo was a major event in the Texas Revolution. The Mexican troops attacked the Alamo and they killed everyone inside of it.
  • Webster–Ashburton Treaty

    The Webster–Ashburton Treaty was signed in 1842. This treaty helped to resolve the conflict between the British and the US.
  • Annexation of Texas

    The Annexation of Texas was when Texas declared independence from Mexico and joined the United States of America.
  • Mexican American War

    The Mexican American War was a war fought between the US and Mexico. When James Polk made an offer to purchase some land from Mexico and it was rejected he sent troops into attack Mexico. That is what sparked the Mexican American War.
  • Mexican Cession

    The Mexican Cession was when Mexico ceded into the US. This helped grown our country's territory and expanded it as a whole.

    Gold Rush

    The California Gold Rush was when gold was found in California and people from all across the world came there to try and get rich. Many of them did. In turn, this expanded our economy and helped grow the country.
  • Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

    The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was when the US gained a sizable amount of land from Mexico after the Mexican American War. This helped complete manifest destiny and expanded the country.
  • Gadsden Purchase

    The Gadsden Purchase was when the US purchased modern day Arizona and New Mexico. This expanded the country's territory and helped to complete manifest destiny.
