The thirteenth amendment is important to the civil rights movement because it had freed the slaves. It gave way to the whole movement.

Black codes were an important part of this movement. They were white people's way of still getting to treat the black people like slaves. They would tell black people that they had different laws than whites.

The fourteenth amendment states that nobody can deny a citizen's human rights. This was created to put an end to the Black Codes. They are saying that now the white people have to treat black people equally.

The 15th amendment states that every citizen of the United States can vote. Nobody can deny them the right to vote.

Plessy v Ferguson was a court case that challenged the doctrine of "Separate but Equal" facilities for blacks and whites. They challenged it by proving that they were, in fact, not equal but extremely pro-white.

The Jim Crow Laws were close to the same thing as Black Codes. They would make voting exams to purposefully exclude blacks. They would keep finding new ways to discriminate against the black community.

The nineteenth amendment gave women the right to vote. This was very important to the women's rights movement. It was the very beginning to more freedoms for women.
