Columbus "Discovers" America
"In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue" this ryhme pretty well describes this event. In 1492 Christopher Columbus landed in what he thought was India but was actually North America which was up to that point undiscovered by the Europeans. -
Jamestown Colony Created
Jamestown was the first British colony in modern day America and was sponsored by the Virginia Company of London. The colony faced many problems including disease and problems governing. -
Massachusetts Bay Colony Created
The Massachusetts Bay Colony was an English settlement in the 16th century. It formed when groups of Puritans came to America. They were allowed to make their own laws for example the parents had to teach their kids to read so that they could read the bible. -
New Amsterdam becomes New York
New Amsterdam was the Capital of the Colony New Netherland before Dutch Governor Peter Stuyvesant surrendered the town to the English who later renamed it New York in honor of the Duke of York.The British had an attack on the Dutch which is what lead them to surrender. -
Albany Congress meets
The plan the congress deveoloped was to manage Indians, taxes,and laws. A president/general was to be appointed as well. However the plan later failed due to lack of approval from the crown and colonies. -
George Washington assaults Fort Duquesne
George Washington led a group of Virginians on the side of the British during the assault on Fort Duquesne, The French who were occupying the fort withstood the initial attack from the British but eventually could no longer withstand the British. -
The French and Indian War concludes
On February 10, 1763 the French and British signed the Treaty of Paris which ended the war. The treaty did things like establish the United States and set boarders for the United States. The fighting did continue for months afterwards however despite the treaty.
