The battle of nu'uanu was tooken place on oahu on may 1795. It was a key battle in the final days of king kamehameha the first wars to unify the islands.

In 1796 kamehameha attempts his attack on kauai. Then one fourth heading to kauai there was a rough storm and took out most of kamehameha's boats. They were forced to head back to oahu. Only kamehameha's advanced warriors got to kauai but was killed on shore.

Because kamehameha's plans wre ruined he decided to make aa agreement with king kamuali'i the ruler of kauai and ni'ihau. The agreement was if kamuali'i will still rule kauai it would be part of kamehameha's hawaiian kingdom so he could unite all f the islands.

The kapu system ended in 1819 when kamehameha died and liholiho and ka'ahumanu was crowned. It ended because the women did not have much power or did things men could do. The women could not eat shark meat befoore they would have mana (power). And since kamehameha died they could end it.
