    When Ukraine was part of Russia

    According to the BBC news, Ukraine is part of Russia, or the Soviet Union.They were seperated from one country named ‘Kiev Ruth’ and also from the fact that they were east slavic, they are close to each other racially. Between 1772-1795, most of western Ukraine was absorbed into the Russian Empire through the partitions of Poland.

    According to the ‘I wonder', when the soviet union was established in 1922, many countries were transferred into the soviet union, including Ukraine. However, because there are people who opposed the Soviet Stalin regime inside Ukraine, the Soviet union begin to thoroughly suppress Ukraine.In 1922-1923, the Stalin regime take so many crops leading to the great famine to Ukrainians and a 3.9% death rate because of starveness.

    Ukraine become independent in 1991 August 24 after they declares independence following an attempt coup in Moscow.
  • Ukraine&Russia Crimea war

    According to the Ukraine profile-Timeline and Britannica, in March 2014, Russian forces to annex Crimea, prompting the biggest East-West showdown since the Cold War. The US and European Union impose harsher sanctions on Russia.The effect from this is that the two country’s conflicts get deeper and cause 14,000 deaths.

    According to the YTN news, even though Ukraine is an independent country, it was hard for them to actually move out from Russia. Ukraine showed many ways of showing that Ukraine and Russia are separate countries; however, according to Putin’s thesis in 2021 July, he thinks that Ukraine and Russia are still one country. Many of the countries in Europe had joined NATO and Ukraine wanted to join too. This was a big way of showing/realizing Russia that they are two separate countries.

    On 2022 February 22nd, Russia send various missiles to Ukraine and placed 100,000 troops on the border. According to the bloomberg, Putin claimed that Ukrainian government “genocide” against Russian speakers in the Donbas breakaway regions. So that he is meant to ‘protect’ his citizens.

According to the ‘The Guardian’, Hungary has welcomed about 140,000 refugees from Ukraine, Moldova 97,00, Romania 51,000, Slovakia 72,00.
