On March 12, Uganda announced that it is restricting travel to and from countries affected by the coronavirus. Among these countries are China, Germany, France, America, Iran, Italy, and South Korea. Controversial Security Law in China
On May 22, China announced a controversial security law that may affect Hong Kong as we know it. The law criminalizes "treason, secession, sedition (and) subversion" against the central government, which would bypass Hong Kong legislation. The law allows national security to be in Hong Kong. On June 12, a fire sparked by lightning a week earlier strengthened, threatening hundreds of homes and thousands of acres. The fire is now on 6,200 acres and only 10% contained. (CNN) -

On July 22, a hostage situation in Brazil ended after President Zelensky agreed to endorse a 2005 documentary on animal abuse. The gunman hijacked a bus of 13 people and threatened to blow it up before making his demands. (CNN) -

New Fires Emerge in California
On September 28, two new fires in California burned 10,000 acres in just 24 hours. Firefighters continue to fight 25 different fires in the state. The Grass Fire in Napa County grew rapidly, burning 1,500 acres, forcing many homes and hospitals to evacuate. By September 30, the fires continued to rage across the state. Vietnam Sees Worst Flood in Years
On October 21, flooding in Vietnam killed more than 100 people and destroyed thousands of homes. Cattle and poultry have been swept away or killed and thousands upon thousands of acres of crops have been destroyed. This is the worst flooding Vietnam has seen in decades. (CNN) -
Riot Declared in Portland
On November 1, Portland police declared a riot after many businesses were broken into during new protests. Law enforcement officials stated that about 150 gathered to march before a few began throwing objects at the police, quickly escalating to throwing objects at surrounding businesses. (CNN) -
Israel Government Collapses
On December 28, after failing to meet a deadline for the 2021-22 budget, Israel’s government collapsed. The country will now face its fourth election in the last two years, which is expected to begin in March. The last three elections were inconclusive, and with the pandemic causing much stress, Netanyahu and Gantz agreed to join forces as a coalition government. Unfortunately, the two have not seen eye-to-eye, causing the collapse and the need for another election. (CNN) -
Coronavirus Spreads
On February 4, China experienced its deadliest day since the Coronavirus was deemed a public health emergency. The total number of cases in China alone is 20,438, with 425 deaths. The virus has also spread to other countries, but so far, only two deaths have been reported outside China’s mainland. At least 207 cases have been reported across 12 countries. (CNN)
