  • Declaration of Independence Officialy Signed

    Declaration of Independence Officialy Signed
    On July 4, 1776 the Second Continental Congress gathered together to officially sign the Declaration of Independence. This was the date that the United States offially adopted and agreed to the Declaration of Independence. The 2nd Continental Congress actually voted on it on July 2nd, but it was signed on July 4.

    The Official Signing of the U.S. Constitution
    The United States Constitution was officially signed on September 17, 1787. Even after they signed it they still had to get 9 out of the 13 states to vote on it. Five of the states did very quickly, but it took a while for the other states to finally agree.

    The Louisiana Purchase was made in 1803 and 828,000 square miles was added to the United States. In total it cost 15 million dollars whcih makes each acre less then 3 cents per acre. This purchase, made by Thomas Jefferson, doubled the United States and one big step closer to a Manifest Destiny dream.

    The California Gold Rush started when James Marshall found a nugget of gold at his mill on January 24, 1848. Soon the news spread throughout the whole country and thousands flocked to California to claim their fortune.The climax of the Gold Rush would definitley be 1849 and many people who came to California at that time were nicknamed "the forty-niners". It's important to the U.S. history becasue the country grew and grew becasue of this event, especially California.

    On October 29, 1929 the stock market crashed, investors traded in about 16 million shares on that day. Ton's of people lost all their money and billions of dollars were lost. This day was then called Black Tuesday, and was the start of the Great Depression.

    World war ll started September 1, 1939, this war resulted in and estimated 50 to 85 million deaths. Around 100 million soldiers fought from 30 different countries. Nobody can exactly aggree to the official date of the end of the war, but it was thought to be around August 14th. In the end the U.S. won the war, this took us out of the Great Depression and put us in the position of one of the world's powerful nations.

    Passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act
    March 26, 1964 was a big day for the many people involved in the Civil Rights movement. This passing was first proposed by President John F. Kennedy, and then officially signed into law by Lyndon B. Johnson. This law broke the ties between race, color, religon, gender, and other topics like that.
  • Eruption of Mount St. Helens

    Eruption of Mount St. Helens
    On May 18, 1980 there was a major eruption on Mt. St. Helens, this resulted in 57 deaths. The eruption column rose 80,000 ft and the ash from it spread to 11 U.S. It took billions of dollars to repair the damage done in Washington.
