  • Adoption of the Declaration of Independence

    The colonists wanted to break ties with Britain and King George for their independence. The document summarized the motivations for breaking ties with Britain. One of the biggest affects were for other foreign governments to recognize them as an independent nation.
  • Signing of the Constitution

    The Constitution was signed by 38 of the 41 delegates present at the end of the Constitutional convention. To win ratification by the necessary nine out of 13 U.S. states a hard waged battle had to be done. Indeendence Hall was where the Constitution was signed.

    Lewis and Clark Expedition

    Thomas Jefferson got the Louisiana Purchase from France, an unexplored new region for America. In 1803, Jefferson wanted to send Meriwether Lewis and william Clark to scout the land. The purpose of this expedition was to explore the Missouri River to the ocean and establish the most direct water route to the Pacific. They were also instructed to make detailed accounts of the journey, make maps, make geograpic observations,and provide information on the Indians to the west. They started in 1804.

    California Gold Rush

    California Gold RushJames Marshall found some gold nuggets in the American River bed near Sacremento. When word spread back to the East, more than quarter of a million people flocked to California to become rich instantly. In 1849, quartz mining began at the Mariposa mine in Mariposa County. In 1850 California became a state. Also in that year, gold-bearing quartz was discovered at Gold Hill, in Grass Valley. This led to underground mines which were a big industry for over 100 years.
  • Stock Market Crash of 1929

    production had already declined and unemployment had risen, leaving stocks in great excess of their real value. Stock prices began to decline in September and early October 1929, and on October 18 the fall began. 16,410,030 shares were traded on the New York Stock Exchange in a single day. Billions of dollars were lost, wiping out thousands of investors, and stock tickers ran hours behind. And that put us into the Great Depression.

    World War 2

    61 Countries were involved in World War 2, over 75% of the world. 50 million people dies, and people that weren't involved still lost their lives. This was the largest conflict in the history of the World, countries were using advanced weapons such as nuclear weapons and long-range weapons. Germany wanted to regain land that they lost in World War 1, and get those lands back under his rule. United States won the 6 year war, and that got us out of the Great Depression.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    In October 1962, an American spy plane secretly photographed nuclear missile sites being built by the Soviet Union on the island of Cuba. Soviets would dismantle the weapon sites in exchange for a pledge from the United States not to invade Cuba. In a separate deal, which remained secret for more than twenty-five years, the United States also agreed to remove its nuclear missiles from Turkey.
  • Apollo 11 landing on the Moon

    Was the 11th in a series of flights using the Apollo hardware. It was also th fifth manned flight o the moon.The purpose of the mission was to perform a manned lunar landing and return safely to Earth.
