    On May 13, 1846 the United States declared war on Mexico. In February 2nd 1846 the Mexican-American war ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidlgo. With the war ending the United States won California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, and parts of Texas.

    The United States Supreme Court rules 7 to 2 in the Dred Scott vs. Sandford case. The rulling was that salvery is protected by the Constitution and ban slavery in territories is unconsitutional.
