  • Proclamation of Neutrality

    It was a formal announcement that George Washington had made, declaring that the nation was neutral in the conflict between France and Great Britain.
  • XYZ Affair

    This was a diplomatic event between the U.S. and France. France was at War with Great Britain at the time and their was a treaty between Britain and the U.S. had failed to give france the right to ship with the U.S. So the french had sent 3 diplomats X, Y, and Z to the U.S. with crazy demands. This resulted in an undeclared war between France and the U.S.
  • The Convention of 1800

    This convention ended the "war" between France and the United States. This convention had ended the alliance that America had started with France during the Revolution.
  • The Louisiana Purchase

    This was a deal that the U.S. and France had made, in which the U.S. received approx. 827,000 sq miles of land west to the Mississippi River for 15 million dollars
  • Embargo Act of 1807

    This act made it so that any and all exports from the U.S. were illegal. The point of this was to get France and Great Britain to respect American rights.
  • The War of 1812

    The U.S. declared war on Britain because the Americans wanted to stop impressment and because they wanted Great Britain to stop arming the Indians
  • The Treaty of Ghent

    Was a peace treaty between the U.S. and Great Britain that ended the war of 1812 in the city of Ghent.
  • The Monroe Doctrine

    This doctrine was given by James Monroe that declared against foreign colonization. The intention was so the U.S. would remain neutral in European wars.
