    Blue Ash, Kentucky: The Escape
    Harrison and Samuel were slaves. They were owned by Mas Hackler and Miz catherine. One night when Samuel was clearing off the table after dinner, he acidently dropped a plate. He got in trouble by Miz Catherine. That night Samuel and Harrison packed up and ran off. They were making their escape to freedom.

    Kentucky: The scare
    After running long through the night Harrison and Samuel got to the tree where Harrison had came the first time he tried to run off. They were hoping it would rain so that their smell would disappear. Around dusk they heard the horses and heard people caling for them, Samuel knew one of them was Lilly. Luckily they didn't find them. Later that night they decided to start running again. Samuel thought something was following him so he started running all around. That night they got lost.

    When they finally stopped running they hid behind the bushes with many spider webs in it. That night they ran all the way to the Ohio river. When they got there they hooted like owls so the river man woud come pick them up on the boat. The river man came and got them. Once they got the boat into the water, they heard a woman screaming. It was Hetty Scott. They came back to get her. She did not want to get off the boat because of her nice clothes. So the River man pushed her out in the water.

    Samuel and Harrison were directed to the WIdow Taylor's house. The house was small, white, and had a small cellar. Samuel and Harrison slept and got food in the cellar. Widow Taylor took them to the church, there they met Mr. Keepheart, Reverned Pry. They asked Samuel about his life and how his slave life was. He wrote it down to tell the congrigation. They slept in the chirch that night.

    The next morning Mrs. Kettle came to take Samuel and Harrison to Green Murdock. They got all dressed up so no one knew they were black people. Harrison found Ham fishing. Harriosn caught a whole string of fish. When they were walking a white man passed by and took their fish and gave them back the head of one. They then got to Green Murdock's house, he wasn't home so they hid in the shed.

    When Green Murdock got home he got them out of the shed. He asked if they wanted food. They of course said yes. He got them a small slab of bacon and a small bag of potatoes. He gave Samuel a shirt and trousers that had stains and holes. Green Murdock told them there fortune. Harrison got the ace of spades which means bad luck. The next morning Harrison had got the lung fever.

    That night Green Murdock brought them almost all the way to the negro hollow. When there was 1/4 of a mile left Green Murdock told Samuel to go get help because he was't going to go any further. Samuel ran all the way there. The first house he went to the women that answered the door thought he was a thief and told him to go away. Someone told him through a window "to go to the third house down and knock twice twice and twice again to get help."

    Harrison has just gotten better and they are about to leave because the snow is coming. "The Snow" is the name that black people call the white people. August is taking them to the railroad to hide them on a train that should take them North.
  • Near the Negro Hollow: Meeting Ordee Lee

    Near the Negro Hollow: Meeting Ordee Lee
    While Samuel and Harrison sit in the darkness, when a voice says, "Who's in here with me?" The voice is of a man. The man turns on a lantern and walks over to Samuel and Harrison. The man is a runaway slave who refers to himself as Ordee Lee. Ordee Lee tried to kill his master with a shovel. Ordee brought a peice pf paper with him containing the hair of his his three children.
  • Sandusky: The Otter

    Sandusky: The Otter
    Samuel, Harrison, and Ordee arrive at the ship yard in Sandusky. They meet a man to help them get on the ship. tells them to roll barrels of flour on to the ship named the "Otter". When they are rolling the barrels onto the ship they are told to get out their free papers. Ordee decides to run automatically identifying as slaves. Someone gets the constable to come arrest the slaves. Samuel sees a glimmer of hope in the constables eye.
  • Sandusky: Sailing to Canaday

    Sandusky: Sailing to Canaday
    Samuel tells Ordee to get out his piece of paper that has his childrens hair. Ordee gets it out and gives it to the constable only Harrison, Samuel and Ordee see the hair fall out. The constable says "Let them go it says their free." The two slave catchers dont agree, but they have to follow orders. All three of them get on the "Otter" and sail to Chatham, Canada.

    Chatham, Canada
    They arrive at Canada and meet Samuel's mother. Ordee becomes the greatest Blacksmith in Chatham.
