    Trojan War
    The Trojan war between the Greeks and the people of Troy. The strife began after the Trojan prince Pris abducted Helen, wife of Menelaus of Sparta. When Menelaus demanded her return, the trojans refused. Menelaus then persuaded his brother Agamemnon to lead an army against Troy. Odysseus was the first hero of the Trojan War. He fought in the war because he had in the past sought the hand of Helen and had sworn an oath to protect her.

    Nevertheless, a hero like Odysseus proves his mettle when faced with the opposition of the gods. Odysseus is shrewd, tough, clear-sighted, experienced, a man very well equipped to brave adversity. Like a few other heroes, he is intensely self-reliant, confident of his own powers against the buffetings of fate.

    They could have fought Cyclops but he is too strong. So they make a plan to attack him. Odysseus gets him drunk on wine that brought along from the ship. When he finally collapes, they drive the red-hot staff into his eye.

    After their misadventures in Polyphemus cave. Aeolus gave them hospitality for a month and provided them a west wind to carry them home to Ithaca. Later on Odysseus men opened the bag and the wind escaped and drove them back to the islands.

    Cyclops teaches Odysseus about the dangers of having too much pride. Odysseus was too prideful after he left cyclops , and that pride is why he was left swimming in the ocean.

    On finding a large cave, Odysseus and his men entered the cave, where they helped themselves to the food and drink they found there. and fell asleep. After a Time, a Cyclops, whose name was Polyphemus returned to the cave. Cyclops devours two of Odysseus's men on the spot and imprisons Odysseus and the rest in his cave for future meals.

    A storm sent by Zeus sweeps them along for nine days before bringing them to the land of the Lotus-eaters. The lotus plant is a very powerful plant which causes those who eat it to forget. So the natives give some of Odysseus's men the intoxicating fruit of the lotus. As soon as they eat this fruit, they lose all thoughts of home and long for nothing more than to stay there eating more fruit.

    Sirens
    Odysseus and his men approach the island of the lovely Sirens. As they approach Odysseus, as instructed by Circe, plugs his men's ears with beeswax and has them bind him to the mast of the ship. he alone hears their song flowing forth from the island, promising to reveal the future. The sirens song is so seductive that Odysseus begs to be released from his fetters, but his faithful men only bind him tighter.

    Penelope gets Odysseus's bow out of the storeroom and announces that she will marry the suitor who can string it and then shoot an arrow through a line of twelve axes. Telemachus sets up the axes and then tries his own hand at the bow, but fails in his attempt to string it. The suitors warm and grease the bow to make it supple, but one by one they all try and fail. This teaches Odysseus about loyalty and to be pateince just like penople was.

    The sirens teach Odysseus more about self-control because even the littlest thing can make you lose self-control. Just like the Sirens made Odysseus lose his self-control.

    Scylla and Charybdis

    Scylla and Charybdis
    Odysseus and his men must navigate the straits between Scylla and Charybdis. Scylla is a six-headed monster who, when ships pass swallows, one sailor, for each head. Charybdis is an enormous whirlpool that threatens to swallow the entire ship. As instructed by Circe, Odysseus holds his course tight against the cliffs of Scylla's lair. As he and his men stare at Charybdis on the other side of the strait, the head of Scylla swoop down and gobble up six of the sailors.

    They reached the island of the sun. Odysseus wanted to avoid the island but Eurylochus insisted that the crew needed rest. Odysseus made the men swear an oath not to eat any cattle, but they were trapped on the island for a month by an inopportune wind: eventually, their stores ran out and they began to starve. One day Odysseus fell asleep, and Eurylochus convinced the men to eat the Cattle of the Sun: Odysseus woke up to find that the men had broken their oaths and killed some cattle.

    This teaches Odysseus about making choices as a leader. This shows him that you can't choose what's right for you when you are in charge, but you have to make a decision that helps and protects the people around you.

    Circe
    Odysseus and his men travel to Aeaea, home of the beautiful witch goddess Circe. Circe drugs a band of Odysseus's men and turns them into pigs. When Odysseus goes to rescue them, Hermes approaches him in the form of a young man. He gives a molly plant to eat so he would be protected from Circe's drug and then he lunges at her when she tries to strike him with her sword. He overpowers her and forces her to turn his man back into humans. Odysseus soon becomes her lover and stays for a year.
