The students arrive at school for the last time before the snowstorm hits Tattawa
-
Students and teachers are made aware of the early dismissal due to the weather.
-
Jason asks his friends Scotty and Pete to stay after the dismissal to work on the go-kart he made.
-
Most students are dismissed by virtue of school busses.
-
After dismissal, 7 people remain in the building, including six students and one teacher.
-
Trying to call for help and assistance, the 7 remaining people lose the battery life in their cell phones. This would be the first of many things that they would lose along the way.
-
-
-
Mr Holloway, the only remaining teacher in the building, goes to look for resources and help. He would never return.
-
Only six people remain. All students. They all sojourn in the main lobby of the school and look for ways to survive.
-
Without their cell phones, the power within the school is cut due to a fallen pole in the middle of the snow-covered street.
-
-
The go-kart that Scotty, Pete and Jason work on is finished.
-
In an attempt to find help, Pete takes to go-kart outside and starts driving for help. His drive would last 200 yards, as the front of the car was placed lower than the back, and Pete flipped.
-
Witnessing the crash from inside, Scotty sees Pete stuck under the go-kart and decides to go out to save him.
-
Finally reaching Pete, Scotty flips the go-kart over and sees Pete underneath it, but can tell Pete has gotten frostbite and suffocated. Pete has died.
-
Once Pete is seen as dead, Scotty collapses, as all of the energy he had was used in helping save Pete. Scotty falls unconscious.
-
Scotty is spotted by a helicopter which goes down to save Scotty. He would be airlifted to a hospital. He was revived while in the helicopter.
-
The book ends before Scotty ends up in the hospital, just after he was resuscitated in the helicopter. It is unknown the condition of the rest of the people, but of the 7 that started out trapped, we know of 2 casualties.
