    Immigration is the foundation of America's population; it continues to grow as does our strength. Dating back to the early 1600s, immigration to the United States has always been a challenge. Entering the United States was difficult because of all the tests and checks we did to make sure they qualified to be a citizen. Immigration is number four on my list because it made the United States citizenry the “melting pot” it is today.

    The formation of colonies started in 1607 with the founding of Jamestown, Virginia. The Colonies continued to grow until 1733; Georgia was the last colony to be added. The formation of colonies is important because they are the birth of our nation provided a base from which our country could grow.

New species of plants and animals were discovered and Native Americans posed a threat: all things that a new nation would, in time, overcome. This event is number three on my list because it doubled the size of the original colonies and accelerated the process of the Industrial Revolution.

The expansion into the western territories caused controversy, and the war began after shots were fired at Fort Sumter. After four year of bloodshed, the Confederacy collapsed, slavery ended, and reconstruction of the nation began. This is a very important time in history because slavery ended and equality throughout the states began to rise.

    The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike conducted by the Japanese navy. The attack on the naval base of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii killed 2,402 Americans and destroyed 188 U.S. aircrafts. This event caused the United States to join WWII against Japan. Many lives were lost, but it is an event that America will always remember, with consequences that the Japanese will never forget.

The case led to multiple protests throughout the sixties and resulted in an interracial public. This is an important time in history because it has changed America’s outlook on race.

    Space Exploration started after the Cold War. The Soviets and the Americans were in a space race to see who could fire the first object (or man) into orbit. The Soviets launched the Sputnik into orbit in 1957. The Americans shot back with the Apollo 11, sending the first man to the moon. Space Exploration is important because it has pushed America to new scientific advancements.
