The Proclamation Act of 1763 was created by King George III that drew an imaginary line along the Appalachian Mountains, forbidding Americans to go west of the line so Indians could live with no disturbances of their tribal lands. This act is important because many colonist felt it was unfair that Britain was forbidding them to expand westward. Moreover, those who were already living west were forced to leave. -

It gave Britain all of Canada and territory east of the Mississippi River that was initially France's. Spain was also compensated by receiving Louisiana territory for allying with Britain. This event is included because the treaty resulted in the colonists having to pay for its mother country's war debts through taxes even though they fought by Britain's side. -
The Sugar Act of 1764 cut taxes on molasses in half in hopes of reducing the smuggling of molasses from French-controlled islands. It also added taxes on other imported goods to get more money out of the colonists. The reasoning for including this event is because it was the beginning of the colonists feeling a certain way for being taxed without their approval. -
The Stamp Act made colonist pay taxes on all paper they used with a government stamp, affecting all the colonist because paper was used in many ways. However, the tax was not enforced in England. The massacre initially started as angry colonist throwing icicles and oyster shells at a young British soldier named Hugh White. As the crowd got bigger and other soldiers came to help, one was knocked down causing him to fire his musket. It progressed further when more soldiers began to fire, killing five men. I mentioned this event because it was also a turning point in unifying the colonies as one and the start of the American Revolution. -
On December 16, 1773, angry Patriots dressed as Indians and boarded British cargo ships in Boston Harbor. They then poured out 342 chests of tea into the water, causing a turning point with England. This event was included because it demonstrated America's strength in a daring way, and made a statement that they were not happy that they did not have a say in being taxed. -
The first continental congress was made up of fifty-five delegates who represented the twelve colonies. Members of the congress came together in Philadelphia to discuss over the disputes with England. I would say this event is important because it was the start of unifying the colonies as one nation. -
On July 4, 1776, 56 delegates of the Continental Congress formed the Declaration of Independence, which announced America's independence from Great Britain. This event is very significant because it was made to address the issue that all men are created equal. This document unified the colonies together to fight for their freedom. -
The Battle of Saratoga was a three-week long battle fought in Saratoga, NY that America won. The Patriot Army surrounded the British, who were already low on food and weapons, causing them to surrender. General Burgoyne turned over 5,800 troops, 7,000 muskets, and 42 cannons.
