    Christopher Columbus discovers the " New World"
    This event was a significant factor in the development of the United States. The discovery however, was less important than the time in which it was found, eventually someone else would have found it, but the United States as we know it may be different. The time in which it was found set the tone for other countries to start exploring North America such as the British, who unlike the Spanish would look to develop a long term establishment. For example if the discovery had been 100 years later

    John Cabot lands in Newfoundland
    The exploration of John Cabot into North America marked the begining of the end for most Natives in North America. As soon as the Europeans set foot in North America a new age of diseases infected the Natives. From the 1600se late into the 1800s,Indians were ravaged by Smallpox, Influenza, and Measels. By killing off the Native population they became a less opposable force leading to the Brithish colonies to more freely thrive rather than be under pressure from the Indians.
  • The English Colony of Jamestown is established

    The establishment of Jamestown was the first permanent settlement in North America. The mistakes learned,not only provided a roadmap for future settlements, but also revealed the extent of commitment the investors would have to put into these colonies in order for them to be successful. Without the knowledge gained from this, future colonies would have failed miserably and left Britain with no effective settlements in North America.
  • House of Burgesses first meeting

    This government was established in Virginia to help retain order whithin the system. While this established a governing role among the colonials, it also contributed as a basline for our founding fathers to start the constituion. Without the influence of this, our current concept of a democratic governing system could be substantially different.
  • Montreal is surrendered ending the 7 Years War

    The defeat of France in the French and Indian War established the dominance of Britain in North America. The war also left England with a a crippling war debt that also affected the colonies. New laws were put in place that would tax the colonies at a much higher rate to help offset this debt. This event started a basline of tenisons within the colonies that eventually resulted in an all out confrontation with Great Britain.
  • King George the Third is crowned King of England

    King George the Third's reign,may have cost him a great nation, America.The colonists frustration over ever increasing taxes, led to boycots and unrest. This enraged the King and he added even mores taxes such as the Townshed Acts. The Americans began to realize the instabliity of an insane ruler, and their dis-content continued to grow. Without the nuisance of a Tyrannical King pressing on higher taxes, the American colonies may have sustained loyalty.
  • The Boston Massacre

    With tensions on the rise, the Boston Massacre was the begining of a long fought War with Great Britian. It ignited the first stages of the revolution. After this event, the whole country of America felt affected by this, and began to rebel against their "mother country". If this had not taken place and compeled the colonist to revolt as well as further enflaming their desire for peace, liberty, and a just government,the United States wouldnt have developed.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party clearly was a great "slap in the face" to Great Britain. This showed Britain that the now unified colonies were giving signals of a full revolt. By defying Great Britain, the colonist showed that they did not agree with being taxed without reprsentation. This event also shows how persistant the colonist were and that they would keep rebeling until they got what they wanted.
  • The Battle of Lexington and Concord

    This event known as the "shot heard round the world", physically started the Revolutionary War. At that point it was clear that the United States was at war with Britain, and undoubtalby sealed the fate of American history. Regardles of the conditions or hardships, the American colonist would fight for their right to live and become citizens of a "New Nation".
  • The Decleration of Independance

    The official document of The Decleration of Independance, secured the right of new nation and broke all ties with England. This point in time was the begining of a new age that promised liberty and democracy to its people. The Declaration also outlined what and how this new country would be established. Without the offical writing of this document the fate of the United States would have been unsure and possibly unjust as well.
