Timing Matters

  • Day 1

    o Model procedure for classroom routine (throughout the day).
    o Discuss with students what rules and procedures are and why they are important.
    o Compose a list of rules using student input.
    o Post list in classroom.
  • Day 2

    o Model procedure for classroom routine (throughout the day).
    o Review, revise and repost the classroom rule list.
    o Discuss consequence (good/bad) for breaking/following rules, deciding together what they will be.
  • Day 3

    o Model procedure for classroom routine (throughout the day).
    o Review rules and discuss procedures that need to be followed.
    o Construct any tools deemed necessary to help with the flow of classroom (ie.- bankbook, wallet).
  • Day 4

    o Model procedure for classroom routine (throughout the day).
    o Post a list of class jobs which include their responsibilities and expectations, rotation of duties and what happens in the event of an absence
  • Day 5

    o Model procedure for classroom routine (throughout the day).
    o Review rule list and make any necessary adjustments.
    o Review classroom job expectations and responsibilities.
    o Confirm comprehension of the newly formed classroom system, clarify any concerns.
    o Compose and distribute a binder copy and a take home copy of all rules and procedures so parents can be aware of student’s expectations and students have a copy both at home and in their lockers to help with any misunderstandings.
  • Day 6

    o Implement all rules, procedure and consequences.
