  • T.S Eliot

    Thomas Stearns Eliot, a poet, was born on September 26th, 1888. He was American-born but British in spirit. He "was English in everything but accent and citizenship" according to his college classmates. "He smoked a pipe, liked to be alone, carefully avoided slang, and dressed the studied carelessness of a dandy," and he even moved to England, marrying a British woman, and was one of the most influential figure in poetry and literary criticism.

    Katherine Mansfield, her real name Kathleen Mansfield (Beauchamp) Murry, was born on October 14th, 1888. She wrote A German Pension, Bliss, and The Garden Party.

    Sinn Féin was founded on November 28th, 1905. It is a Irish party working to gain North Ireland's freedom from England.

    Edward vii, king for only a mere year, abdicated his throne on December 11th, 1936 so he could marry the love of his life, Wallis Simpson, who was an American divorcee.

    On June 3rd, 1937, Edward viii, known the king who abdicated his throne, married Wallis Simpson.
