    proclamation of 1763
    Description: The British government called a halt to westward expansion beyond the Appalachians.
    Colonist reaction: They were mad because they settled in the land given by the British that was past the line so they protested.
    Britain's government reaction: Made treaties with the indians to move the line further west.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Description: Britain wanted to increased profit from the colonies so they put a tariff on sugar, wine, coffee, and other items that were imported to the colonies
    Colonist reaction: They boycotted English imports
    Britain's government reaction: They repealed the sugar act and with the revenue act.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Description: Required that stamps be on all printed documents in the American colonies.
    Colonists reaction: They boycotted English goods and they had riots and attacked tax collectors.
    Britain's government reaction: They replaced it with the Declaratory act.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    Description: It declared Britain the authority to make/ pass laws in the Colonies.
    Colonist reaction: They found it insignificant at the time. They really didn't do anything.
    Britain's government reaction: They thought it was there right anyway and did not necessarily have to make an act for it.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Description: enacted to raise money for the governors and officials in the colonies and they taxed imports like glass, lead, paints, paper, silk, and tea.
    Colonist reaction: They protested the goods that were taxed
    Britain's government reaction: They repealed most of the Townshend acts in 1770.
