Sugar Act
The Sugar Act of 1764 made it so you had to pay an extra 3 pence per pound of sugar which it wasn't a lot of money but angered the colonists because they were being taxed with out representation. The British government said that it was fair because they cost them a lot of money to fight in the French and Indian War. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act of 1765 required that most of paper items were to be stamped by stamp and you had to pay an extra fee for paper items. The colonist didn't react to this very well because they were going through an economic depression. The British government did it to pay off the debt of the 7 years war which was fought to protect the colonies. -
The Quartering Act
The Quartering Act of 1765 was passed to provide English soldiers with homes. This meant that the colonist needed to provide English soldier with the shelter of their houses. The where also required to cook and clean for them. This made the colonist very upset because who would want a complete stranger into their house. They had to buy food for them. The British government did this because they didn't want to pay the cost of the soldiers. -
Townshend Acts
The Townshend Acts where a series of acts passed in the beginning of 1767. These acts were passed to help the U.K. pay off their debt from the French and Indian War. These taxes tax most of the imports coming from England. The colonist didn't like this so they boycotted all the imports. England thought that they would like this tax so they could pay off the debt.
