Henry VIII became King of England

After the death of Henry VII, he succedded his father as king. And he thought of marrying Catherine of Aragon, and married her in that year.

Jan 25, 1533

Secret wedding to Anne Boleyn / Excommunicated

His first wife couldn’t produce a boy, so he was thinking of marrying someone else and divorced her. He married Anne Boleyn, and she was the Queen of England from then on and until she was executed later. She produced Elizabeth I, who later became the Queen of England. Also, Pope Clement VII excommunicated Henry VIII because of the divorce.

Henry VIII made the Church of England

The parliament passed the Act of Supremacy which is declaring that the king was the supreme head of the church. This happened because Henry VIII wanted a divorce but the pope didn't grant it, so if he was the head of the church, he could grant it himself. It is one of the starts of the English Reformation.

Execution of Anne Boleyn

Anne Boleyn was executed in Tower of London. Few days before that, she was tried for treason, adultery, etc. In that time, Henry VIII was already in love with another woman, Jane Seymour. Within 24 hours of Anne Boleyn's execution, he was married to the new third wife.

Jane Seymour gave birth to Edward VI.

Henry VIII’s third wife, Jane Seymour, gave birth to a son who became Edward VI later. However, she suffered from childbed fever, and she died 12 days after giving birth.

Henry VIII married Anne of Cleves (Fourth wife)

After the death of his third wife, he married Anne of Cleves who became the fourth wife of Henry VIII. However, he divorced her six months later, so the marriage was annulled. He thought she was ugly.

About one month after the divorce with his fourth wife, he soon married Catherine Howard. She was Anne of Cleves’ lady-in-waiting, and Henry VIII saw her, which made him fall in love with her. The age difference was huge, which was about 30 years.

Henry VIII married Catherine Parr (Sixth wife)

He married Catherine Parr, who became the sixth and the last wife of Henry VIII. For Catherine Parr, it was her third marriage, because her two old husbands died. However, in 1547, Henry VIII died and she was widowed the third time.
