Kaitlyn Farrington brought home the US's third gold medal in snowboarding from Sochi. She trailed teammate Hannah Teter leading into finals, but two stellar moves — a backward 720-degree spin combined with a backward 900-degree spin — catapulted her into the lead. Torah Bright of Australia and Kelly Clark of the United States rounded out the top spots. No photographer listed
  • Joss Christensen - Slopestyle Skiing

Freestyle skier Joss Christensen led the American sweep of slopestyle skiing. Their victory marked only the third time the US has swept a category in the history of the Winter Olympics. Christensen, who finished sixth in the 2014 Winter X Games, had tough competition, even among his own teammates. That wasn't enough to stop him from putting up a 95.80 in the finals, however, a score no others could match.

Their victory over the Canadian team of Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, the 2010 gold champions, brought home the first American gold medal in the category of ice dancing. The duo began performing together when Davis was 9 and White was ten. Now, nearly two decades later, their dedication to the sport, and each other, has paid off. Photo by Christian Charisius

US dominance of extreme sporting categories continued with Maddie Bowman's gold finish in women's ski halfpipe. Bowman was ranked third going into the event, but her score of 89.00 in the second run was enough to clinch the win over France's Marie Martinod. Her win brought America's total gold count to 8, with five coming from brand new events. Photo by Andy Wong
