In 1647, the CEA, (Company of Eleutheran Adventurers) founded the first republic in The Bahamas. The took over an island an named it after a Greek Word, Euthra, meaning freedom, because they came to the new land that they didn't know existed.

The start of the New World iis coming. Captain Woods Rogers was named first Royal Governor of the Bahama Islands. He later restored the powerof the pirates and let th Bahaminas choose ruler.

The Bahamian people are starting to build forts now. Construction of Fort Montagu begins at the eastern entrance to Nassau Harbor. They completed the site in 1742, and it now stands as a tourist attraction.

During the American War for Independence from Great Britain, eight colonial warships captured Fort Montague and Fort Nassau.

The Spaniards take over the Bahamas du to the pirates raiding ships. The ships were important. But, the pirates invaded them and the Spaniards took over the Bahamas.

The Bahams are restored now due to the treaty that Great Britain had with Spain. The Bhamas is now back in business and the Governer can now "govern."

In this year, The Bahamas celebrates being 20 years free from Great Britain. This must have been a very happy year because being free is imprtant to living a good life.
