Timeline Federation events

  • Parkes Speech

    Henry Parkes Tenterfield Oration in support of Federation. Henry Parkes called upon the government of Australia to unite and have a national government for all Australia . The speech marked that he had to prepare and cooperate. He had to meet up with all of the colonies for Federation. They got the agreement to have an informal Federation conference to be held the next year(1890) so the colonies can federate.
  • Australasian Federation Conference

    Australasian Federation Conference, Melbourne. Henry Parkes replied to Service toast to a united Australasia. The 13 representatives of the colonial government and NZ accepted Australia's increase the population, wealth and self-governing size since 1883. They agreed to a national meeting to consider a federal consultation.
  • Getting ready for the debate

    Some convention met to improve resolutions prepared by parkes. The resolutions were then put forward by parkes, as a chairman for a debate. These resolutions included ideas for the powers of the colonies to remain intact expect for the surrender of powers to federal government.
  • The first convention

    The first convention in Sydney. Seven delegates form each colony
    and three form NZ agreed to adopt the name commonwealth of Australia. Parkes spoke 'One people one destiny'. Sir Samuel Griffith, Clark and Kingston members conventions committee worked on the constitution.
  • AFL arangement

    AFL of VIC arranged a large Federation meeting at the Melbourne town hall .It was addressed by the authority of VIC, NSW and SA. An AFL of SA was formed in the same year of the Federation meeting in the town hall.
  • International Conference/ Sir Henry Parkes Death

    International Conference/ Sir Henry Parkes Death
    The Intercolonial conference went further on. It was held in Sydney. The agreement reached, extend and restricted immigration to all coloured races. Some sad news also happen in the same year, Sir Henry Parkes Death was this year.
  • National Australasian Convention/Session 2

    National Australasian Convention, the second session in the parliament House, Sydney. They discussed 286 suggested changes to the Structure bill. Delegates agreed on the basis representation in the senate. The powers of the senate view to the money bills, which no one really wanted to happen. The provisions break a deadlock between all houses.
  • National Australasian Convention/ Final Session

    The National Australasian Convention, final session in the Parliament House, Melbourne. The delegates for each colony agreed on the draft structure. Then the convention bill on the 16th was based a version of the 1891 structure . Australia then became the second country in the history and was the first was Switzerland. They took an idea structure to the people in the colonies with electors. In each colony being asked to approve the constitution at the referendum.
  • The Final session ending

    The final session ended of the federal council. In January the authority held a secret meeting and agree to serval changes to the constitution. Between April and July an election was held in south Australia , New South Wales , Victoria and Tasmanian.
  • First Delegate Meeting

    In march the first delegates had a meeting in London. They were Edmund Barton NSW Alfred Deakin VIC, Charles Kingston SA. The several of them strongly defended themselves and approved by the election against British.
  • First Federal election

    The first Federal election were held. As a passage in the constitution, people who could vote for the lower house of their state parliament . Aboriginal Australians and women were able to vote with men in this election.
