    Theory Discovery
Charles Darwin actually formulated his theory of evolution privately around 1838. But on November 24, 1859 Charles Darwin published a book called "On the Origin of Species". It is in this book where Darwin explains his theory publicly and in great detail.

  • Charles Darwin Summary (Part 1)

Charles Darwin is a name many people are familiar with and for great reason, Darwin is best known for his "Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection". This theory states that behavioral and physical traits of organisms changes over time in order to adapt to there environment, which in turn, will increase survivability. This leads us into the voyage aboard the ship HMS Beagle in which Darwin was able to collect a plethora of fossils and specimens.
  • Charles Darwin Summary (Part 2)

Among the many locations the voyage stopped at, South America and the Galapagos Islands seemed to have the biggest impact on Darwin`s studies. In South America, Darwin discovered fossils of extinct animals that resembled modern species. On the Galapagos Islands, Darwin noted that there were variations of plant and animal species similar to South America, indicating they adapted due to environmental factors.
  • Charles Darwin (Part 3)

These are just a few of Darwin`s findings, but they strongly support his theory. Darwin also discovered an adaptation of Finches beaks on the Galapagos Islands. Each Finches beak was a different size and shape, indicating they adapted naturally in order to survive. Again this major finding directly supported Darwin`s theory of evolution. After the voyage, Darwin had pondered privately on his theory. Finally, in 1859, Darwin published "On the Origin of Species", making his theory public.
